Curious to see if anyone here grows their own Veggies? If so what do you grow and what seems to grow well in the MD,WV,PA, and VA soil?

Nice topic title, Romulus. I thought you were looking for some of that legalized pot!! Seriously though, this is the first year we have planted. I don't have much of a green thumb, but I'm going to have yellow squash coming out my ears pretty soon. We haven't given it much special care, fertilizer, or soil. Our green beans are doing ok, green bell peppers pretty good, but our cucumbers are coming along slowly. Not bad for a patch of rocky clay soil in the backyard!

Just growing tomatoes in a raised bed.Last year I used horse manure and they did great with excellent flavor but man did i have clover in the bed this Spring! It's still giving me trouble so this year I'm using a granulated fertilizer. They're doing good so far.I didn't have to replant like so many other people cause of the raised beds.It shouldn't be long now before they're ready. They're the size of baseballs some of them!Next year I'm planning on trying sweet peppers cuz we eat alot of fajitas.

LOL, thanks for the early morning laugh Mom. I spit out my cherrios when I read your post hehehe.
I've been wondering how good bell peppers and onions grow in the area because of the clayish soil. I use bell peppers and onions in just about 50% of my cooking and would love to start growing them instead of searching the market place for just the right ones.

I got my pepper plant at Home Depot. Just your ordinary green bell. Cut up the first one off it tonight and had it in my salad. Hooray! It tastes better when you pick your own, ya know. Can't help with the onions though. Don't even know anyone who grows 'em. You are totally the food/cooking guru, aren't you?

I just go to the farmers markets aroud Hag. and Shep.for all the other stuff.
I guess it's just the atmosphere but the stuff does taste good.Theres a lady at the market in Hag. that makes rolls, man are they good!
And I know that some of the people at the one in Shep. have their own greenhouses, cuz I hear them talking about them.

I love going to the Farmers Market!!! I would much rather support a person in our community than some corporate grocer using migrant workers. My daughter always has to get a whoopie pie, and I love homemade wheat bread. I used to go to the one at Prime Outlets on Wednesday afternoon. Haven't been there lately, though. I've been stopping by a little stand on the way to 40 West Landfill as I haul out the trash each week.

I mostly grow herbs such as lavender, rosemary, sage, basil, mint, thyme, oregano, marjoram, tarragon, bay, and winter savory. Also a few jalapenos, salsa peppers, and tabasco peppers.
