I received the following in an e-mail today and am curious to know if any of the following that are listed, have any truth to them. I know some members of this forum are familiar with the teachings in the bible, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows if the following are true?

VERY INTERESTING -

1. The garden of Eden was in Iraq.

2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq.

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq.

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq!

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in Iraq!

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq!

11. Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq!

13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq! also as the fourth person in the fiery furnace!)

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the "writing on the wall" in Iraq.

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq.

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelations called Babylon, which was a city in Iraq!

And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. But do you know which nation is second? It is Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible. No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.

I checked this out on Snopes and it said that they are still investigating the claims.

I don't know anything about the bible or Iraq, but I know about spam. I bet it's all wrong just based on the fact that you received it through email and it was probably chain letter form.

Pass along to 10 of your closest friends immediately. This means you're well loved.

Pass along to 1 and you're a loser and people hate you and you'll die die die in seven days! blink.gif

Yep that's the real reason for the war; the religious right started the war to take over their true homeland kind of like the Jews with Israel.

The e-mail I posted did not mention anything having to do with the "real reason for the war", nor did anyone's comments. A little defensive, are we? huh.gif

For what it's worth, off the top of my head:

Numbers 1 through 4 are not necessarily absolutely true, though not inconsistent with scripture - one simply cannot say with absolute certainty.

Numbers 5 through 16, 18 and 19 are generally true. At least part of what were once Babylon and Assyria are witihin the borders of the modern nation of Iraq. But to say that Iraq IS Babylon is not entirely accurate. It's something Saddam Hussein liked to boast, but one cannot say that the borders of the ancient Babylonian empire (which of course changed over the years anyway) and those of modern-day Iraq are identifical.

Number 17. is generally accepted by modern biblical scholars, but not unequivocally stated in the Bible.

Of course, there was no place named "Iraq" in biblical times, so in a sense the whole list is false, and whatever the author is trying to get at could just as well be said to be total B.S.
