do they have to be carved so they can be lit?some of those ones that only the top layer is gone are real pretty.and some people would rather paint theirs i'm sure.
just want to know the rules.
how long is the contest gonna run?
i'm getting my new computer this week I hope!yay! right now i'm lucky to be able to post at all.

This thread brings back bad memories. Two years ago, I had just moved in to my new house, in a supposedly quiet neighborhood.
A few days before Hallloween, I carved up my little, orange pumpkin friend. He was very cute with the traditional triangle eyes and nose, with a single front tooth.
He didn't even survive one night.
Imagine my horror when I pulled out of the garage the next morning and finding him shattered in the street.
I haven't bothered with carving a pumpkin since. If I can get over the emotional trauma, I'll try one this year.

Aww, that's terrible Sman

. Maybe carve one but keep it inside the front window of your house. And take a picture of it to post on here!

SMan, perhaps it wasn't what you think.
It could very well have been a suicide,
or,
A BOATING ACCIDENT!

Slightly off topic, for which I apologize, but this looks pretty interesting. Make your own H'ween toys for free.

A little too early...I don't want it to wither before Halloween. I have two uncarved on my porch and one of those pumpkin surgery kits for making fancy designs. Probably another week and a half until I start the carving.

Me too actually. Two on the porch and a kit waiting in the wings. I guess I'm just too eager.
Speaking of...if we're all using the kits, won't we all be submitting the same designed pumpkins?
SMan
Oct 12 2005, 02:36 PM
I'm sure I'll F'up the kit and my pumpkin will be some kind of mutant, so that should make for an interesting entry. And I'll probably do the other one in the old fashioned, triangle eyes/nose pattern.

My pics will have to wait until tonight or tomorrow morning. I had a brain fart and never gave any thought to the fact that these fancy carving patterns only come in one size. Pumpkins come in all sizes.
So now I have to take the carving patterns to work today and reduce them a little on the copier so they fit on my pumpkins.
SMan
Oct 28 2005, 09:43 PM
First of all, please excuse the poor photo quality. I experimented with different levels of lighting and back lighting. My 2MP digital camera doesn't do well in low light and the fancy patterns are designed so you can really only see them when the candle is lit. I may snap a daytime photo of my second entry to try to see it better.
Without further delay.............
SMan entry #1 (a fancy design that supposed to be a mummy skull)

SMan entry #2 (the classic design

)

There you have it. My feeble attempts at carving magic. Let's see more!
PS - Don't forget, if anybody needs their photo webhosted so we can imbed your photo in the thread, pm me and I'll give you my email to send the pic to.

My pictures didn't turn out.
The night of my first halloween party, I bought one of those expensive disposable cameras at the last minute. I left it in my friend's car so I bought two more. Now I get my pictures developed and only two pics came out. They didn't print the others because there was nothing on them.
An entire waste of money! God!
So now I have no pumpkin picture to produce for you and only two retarded pics of my costume.

I'll attach some pumpkins I did a long time ago though. Boy this thread didn't really turn out like I'd hoped.
I can't even get that picture to load. Screw it.

Nov 7 2005, 09:34 PM
My pumpkin was weak anyway. The templates that came with my carving package were uninspiring, so I got on the internet and tried to find some. I printed out a wicked looking spooky tree and taped it to my pumpkin. After I started poking the holes, it became obvious that it wouldn't come out right so I ripped off the stencil and carved a big "H" in a spooky font, free-hand.
Better luck next time, I guess. Just wait til next year...
I'LL CARVE ALL YOUR AVATARS AND KICK BUTT!
