AGAIN, if you're sensitive about animals, you may not want to read this. There is a picture in both links that is hard to stomach.

Dogs used as sharkbait?!

Snopes and SPCA.
SMan
Why the hell did I look at that? I could have stomached it if they were using dead dogs.

Seriously, if you're a dog/animal lover, don't click the links. That snopes link photo is going to haunt me for a little bit.

x2. sad.gif mad.gif I truly will never understand how anyone could bring themselves to do that to an animal.
Naomi
Thanks you guys...I'll be sure NOT to click on that! sad.gif

I clicked on this thread thinking "How bad can it be?" But if the picture is going to haunt Lon Chaney I think I'll pass.

No offense intended Sman.
Heather
Who is Lon Chaney?

The picture isn't gory or bloody. It looks rather unreal and fake. I thought it was photochopped for sure, but according to Snopes, maybe not. It’s just horrific because it shows a close-up of a dog’s face with a large metal fishing hook through his muzzle. The dog is alive. There’s no blood, but the dog’s face and eyes are so expressive and well, to imagine it’s real is just hard to fathom.

Actually... I tend to think the photo is fake, but the story is not.

DH said the photo makes no sense in terms of catching sharks. The shark would (excuse the language here) have to eat the ENTIRE dog to get caught on the hook. Otherwise, if he just bit off most of the dog's body, he'd get his snack and swim happily away. KWIM?

I am guessing the photo is faked and there are some small elements of truth to the story.

In general, it just doesn't make sense. Why bother catching stray dogs--which are often skittish or vicious--when chum and other "junk" fish are readily available and cheap?
SMan
Even if it's fake, I can't get rid of the image of my dog with a huge hook through his snout, being trolled behind a boat.
peacefrog
I'd like to see someone try and get a hook through my dog's nose.

They'd be missing their hand (or their balls) before they ever got a chance to hook him.

Since the thread topic is sad, I'm going to add a gratuitous cute pooch pic to make me happy.

My pride and joy. smile.gif

He (I presume) is a cute pooch for sure. What nice dogs they are too.

Great photo.

He played the werewolf in the original Wolf Man movie back in the 40's. It was a bad joke, haunting and werewolves just seem to go together. I realize he's supposed to be a character from a more modern sci-fi film.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification. smile.gif

Sman, your doggy has an eye boogie.
SMan
I know. I was debating whether to post the picture because of that. smile.gif

Cut him some slack. He wasn't completely awake yet yesterday when I took it.
Heather
He's still quite handsome. wink.gif

Makes my heart flutter.
Naomi
He's beautiful SMan! wub.gif
