If You Love Something, Get Rid of It: Nick and Jessica to Divorce

Cover #557s.jpgThe image at right (click to enlarge) probably won’t be on the newsstands until 10 A.M. or so, but we don’t see why you should wait for the news: Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, America’s Newlyweds, have called it quits. For those of you so self-loathing as to closely follow these things, you’ll recall that in May, E! online reported that the couple had filed for divorce, only to mysteriously retract the story an hour later. But you knew, right then, that this was coming, didn’t you?

The couple is waiting to make an official announcement later in the month (at the appropriate career opportunity, we’re sure), but according to Us Weekly’s scoop — kept so under wraps that employees were not allowed to receive their advance issues yesterday, presumably for fear that People might rape and pillage the story — the marriage has been dead for some time. Well, duh.

The article has a laundry list of contributions to the break-up (mostly blamed on Jessica), including creepy-dad Joe Simpson, Jessica’s “diva” behavior, and her fondness for whiskey on the rocks. One of those ubiquitous sources close to the couple says, “Jessica’s the problem. She’s not the girl America fell in love with anymore.” Oh, young America, were you ever really in love with her? Or were you just lusting? C’mon, be honest.

And now, a moment of silence, please, so that we might hear the sound of every magazine editor in town simultaneously s***ting themselves.

They issued a statement yesterday saying that the US Weekly article is untrue, according to CNN. But with all these different sources reporting this, it makes you wonder if it's not soon coming.

I'm suprised they've lasted this long. What with their "Newlyweds" show, cameras following them around ever since the wedding; how could they have a "normal" marriage?

If there's such a thing as a normal marriage in Hollywood these days.

I like Jessica when she's genuinly stupid and airheaded. I can't stand her when she's faking it just to be funny. She needs knocked down a peg or two. There's nothing humble about her. It's like she's always aware that everyone's watching her...always putting on a show. I know, I know - that's any celebrity for you. But she lays it on thick.

I thought they were a pretty good pair because he would only put up with her spoiled antics so much then he'd just let her have it.

I really liked him on Newlyweds. So often I'd wonder how much longer he could put up with her. Guess he finally got tired of it all!

He's hot, but they're both brainless.

Forgive me, as I know so very little about H-wood celebs, but wasn't Jessica supposed to be a devout Chrtistian squeeky-clean girl? But wasn't she also in some recent sleezy music video basically having sex on camera? Or do I have her mixed-up with another "star"?

The week's loudest and most vehement denial comes courtesy of Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, who on Wednesday repeated -- for the 438th time -- that they are still together, despite headlines in both Us Weekly and Life & Style declaring them definitely, absolutely, for sure finished.

"Nick and Jessica have not separated," the not-so-"Newlyweds'" overworked reps asserted in a statement. "Rumors to the contrary are simply not true."

Jessica's dad, Joe "You Can't Cover Those Suckers Up" Simpson, added angrily to Access Hollywood, "We are tired of these accusations already and we are not going to give further comment."

Not sure if you realize or not, but "you can't cover those suckers up" is actually Jessica's dad referencing her boobs a couple years ago. He was being interviewed and was talking about how big her boobs are and how it's hard to hide them in clothes when they're so big.
