It seems that the Arab League put the kabosh on a last minute agreement reached to avert Iraq War 2. Saddam had accepted an exile plan to the UAE to avoid prosecution and the US readily agreed.

Why would the Arab League do this??? The war would have been avoided, the WMD search could have been completed in an orderly manner, and Bush would have had his oil ( ). There probably would have still been insurgency problems, but without war, the UN would have shared the burden.

I guess the US wasn't dead set on military action with no other options after all?

I recall clearly the news that the Arab League nixed the whole idea. I'm not sure I remember hearing that Saddam was willing, but I do recall hearing that the Arabs wouldn't allow it.

As we've all seen, Saddam wasted all the time he needed playing all of these games with us before the war. He got all the time he needed to hide his WMD, and did so. You want proof? Where are the WMD that we KNEW were there at one point? He stashed 'em all while we played games with the UN.
