Anybody else have it? I just got Sirius for my B'day and love it!!! biggrin.gif
WVDragonlady
US TOO!! We got ours friday. LOVE it! It's like listening to cd's but with out messing with any. biggrin.gif
Did you get the $50 rebate? i just sent ours in today. It's so nice to be able to listen to music and not have those stupid annoying comercials and the morning "personalities"(oxy moron there) rolleyes.gif
Now,we don't need the traffic reports for balt/dc,but they'll come in handy for when we travel. You know whats fun(at least for me),is listening to traffic and weather for different parts of the country.
We got the home docking station and it works great! We have a 50ft tower but for some reason we didn't pick up too much clearly. Now we don't have to worry.
Man I love this thing!! laugh.gif
YeomanWeller
I have XM and it's fantastic !!!
WVDragonlady
I wonder what the "free" radio stations will do when satilite takes a chunk out of their listeners?Add the "pod" people( laugh.gif ) and you could be looking at some cash leaving them.

There is a radio station out of Freedom, CA that I used to listen to on the internet - KPIG. My dial-up at home won't allow me to continue to listen to them, and we don't have the "bandwidth" at work, so I can't hear them anymore. Is KPIG on either Sirius or XM? If it is, sign me up!
WVDragonlady
I've been checking both sheash and it's not on there. As far as I know. now for some stupid reason they have TWO howard stern channels. Like him mucking up one wasn't enough! mad.gif And theres a martha stewart channel too. UGH! rolleyes.gif Thats on sirius. now xm hasn't got any of those that I know of but,how many channels you get on direct tv depends on what package you have. so maybe theres others I don't know about. wink.gif
sheash
Thanx for checking for me WVDL!

I guess I'll just copy some more CD's for the car...... Found a John Hiatt CD I wanted for cheap last week; haven't worn that one out yet.

XM for MLB

Got Sirius for an early Christmas gift from my wife. HOOKED!!! I have the 80's station, Howard 100, and Maxim programmed into my set stations. Nice to have since I travel so much now.
JimB.
This sounds like something I might like.

Can anyone tell me more about how this works? Does it hook up to your car stereo, or is it just a small radio by itself, etc........? Help I'm clueless!

This is what I know( a very non tech geek):
power sourse is plugged into cig lighter in car
tune your fm radio to 87(thats where we have ours)
unit comes with an antenna(small round disc)(so the satellite can SEE youZ)
you have to activate it(young guy at radio shack did it right there for us over the computer)
maybe some of the guys can tell you more.

and it's great! I've got my bluegrass preset and my "left of center" too. laugh.gif
JimB.
Thanks!

I live 5 minutes from Radio Shack so I went and bought one (a "to me...from me" gift for $49.99). I have some time off over the holidays so I will just wait to install it then.

Hey samy! Have you dicovered The Vault yet? biggrin.gif Love it! Whishbone Ash,Led Zeppelin,Pink Floyd,Spirit, and not the same songs over and over like on the terra stations. Man I love my satellite radio!!
SMan
I'm so jealous of you guys. Being a gadget geek, sat radio sounds so cool, but I don't spend enough time in my car to justify the 13 bucks a month. And I never listen to music at home, except when wearing my ipod to jog.
WVDragonlady
WOW!! Jethro Tull-Thick as a brick part I and II-43 mins. no comercials!!!!!! wub.gif

Sorry, but I just had to LOL! laugh.gif

I don't think i've listened to FM radio since i hooked up my Sirius.

I know, we havn't tuned in any terra stations either since we got ours.I like the Sirius Disorder channel too. You never know WHAT they'll play on that. I was listening to Buckwheat Zydeco on the way to the gym. :lol:They play Celtic music on that channel on Sat. for 3 hrs starting at 10am. I do wish Larry would shut up tho. he talks too much. tongue.gif laugh.gif

Margaritaville is pretty cool and Monday on the reggae station is "Marley Monday"
I'm a big Howard fan so 100 and 101 always have something interesting. I am starting
to like bubba the love sponge in small doses. Channel 12 is the random mix station
where you can here Perry Como and the next song is NIN. 104 Rawdog is hilarious
except don't listen while kids are in the car (long story) laugh.gif

Heather - play fair or go home.

You deleted my personal insult: now you need to delete hers or be shown for the biased power-mad loser you currently appear to be.
Idiot
Channel 74, 11 PM during the week is "Rockers doin the Blues". Several nights ago they featured George Thorogood. It was awesome.

The show is so good I've had to start Tivoing Jon Stuart and Stephen Colbert, which are about the only shows I watch. laugh.gif

What little moderation needed on this forum is normally instigated by you. You know this and revel in it. Now deal with the consequences and quit acting so common.

By the way, I'm accused of being biased in your favor A LOT. Keep that in mind, honeybunches.

Only in your small-minded opinion, because you are biased against me and abusing your powers lately. You mods need to butt out, period.

The least you could do is help keep the Herald-Mail out of court by deleting material that violates copyright laws, instead of wasting all of our time editing our speech.

Y'all are going to talk me into getting one of these things yet!

I'm not a Howard fan, and I think I might like to listen to the O's games, so I'm leaning towards XM. Anybody out there have it?

If so, I'm looking for a station similar to the one I used to listen to on RealPlayer. I'd hear John Hiatt and the Goners, Lyle Lovett, Fred Eaglesmith, Guy Clark, Lucinda Williams, String Cheese Incident, Clapton, Allman Bros., Stevie Ray Vaughn, the Dead, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Yeah they played Buckwheat Zydeco, Little Feat, Taj Mahal, Los Lobos, just a general mix of good music. Does a station like that exist on XM?

Get Sirius instead. More sports better coverage. Listened to the whole Bears - Panthers game on my way home from southern WV last weekend.
YeomanWeller
I've had XM for about three years and like Sirius, it has many good music stations. But what makes XM the choice for me is the MLB coverage. Every game all season long.

xm- baseball, golf, nascar until 2007

sirius- football, basketball, hockey and starting 2007 Nascar

both have espn radio and assorted sports news channels

another big seller for me is E street radio. All Bruce 24/7 with rare concert video of old and new Bruce concerts

xm- snoop dog radio
sirius- Shady 45 (eminem radio)

The good news is with these 2 competing the programming should only get better for both companies
sheash
Y'all aren't helping, now!

WingNut is the primary reason I'm not interested in Sirius, and I don't care about basketball (reminds me of the ex), hockey, or NASCAR (reminds me of an old boyfriend). And I'd rather listen to silence or fingernails on a chalkboard than Snoop Dog OR Slim Shady - what they do is not music, in my opinion.

Now E Street Radio would hold my interest until it started being repetitive, and it wouldn't take all THAT long; Bruce has done a lot of stuff, but it would take maybe 2-1/2 days to work thru his catalog and concerts?

I still miss KPIG!

You just don't listen to those stations hun. There are quite a few I don't listen to. I have mine pre-set and don't bothere with martha or howard or any of the jazz and hiphop crap. still...just the fact that I don't have to listen to asinine "banter" is wonderful! And the stupid comercials either!

WingNut is the primary reason I'm not interested in Sirius...

I still miss KPIG!

I can relate. Unfortunately stict adherance to principle in this case would rule out subscribing to any media outlet.

Btw, KPIG lists minimum system requirements as:

RealPlayer Minimum System Requirements
- 350MHz Intel Pentium II processor or equivalent
- 64MB of RAM(128MB on Windows XP or later)
- 52MB available disk space
- 28.8Kbps modem (audio only)
- 16-bit sound card and speakers
- 65,000-color video display card set to display at 800x600 (video)
- Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows XP
- IE 5.0 or later

They also provide a link to an earlier version of Realplayer if you don't meet them. I would have provided the link but I have JavaScript disabled for all but a few sites so I couldn't copy the URL.

Hope it helps.

Oh, I've got all of the system requirements and more, but I've got dial-up that gets 26.4 when I'm lucky. Nobody, including my current provider Innernet, offers anything better where I am. Unless I pay $99/mo for Direcway. With my current setup, I hear a couple of notes, then wait another 3 minutes for it to download some more, which is highly unsatisfactory.

DL, that's why I carry CD's in my car - no commercials, and I get to hear what I WANT to hear. But changing CDs can be dangerous if you're doing it while driving. Don't ask my why I know that. wink.gif
SMan
OK. You guys/gals, along with Howard Stern and the NFL, have convinced to dive in to satellite radio. I went with Sirius. Dang, it was hard to find any Sirius receivers right now because of Stern's debut.

I'll report back with many questions. smile.gif
SMan
I'm loving the Sirius! The radio I bought just came out and the home kit for it isn't available yet, so I'm stuck with listening in the car only right now. My favorite channel is Hair Nation (channel 23). Non-stop Bon Jovi, Poison, Warrant, Cinderella, etc. is awesome. The memory feature that remembers the songs/artists you save and alerts you when they're playing on another channel is handy.

Those of you that use one of the plug and play models in your car, how do you hook it to your existing system? I'm currently using the built in FM transmitter, I've found a few good stations to transmit on (107.9, 95.7, 88.something) without static, but the music still seems a little flat and doesn't sound that great when cranked up. Would one of the wired FM transmitters that plug in-line to your car antenna help me get a little more fidelity in the music and bring it closer to CD quality?
