A topic was locked by Yoss because of my reaction to samy0's attacks. While I believe that all posters here shall remain annoymous unless they choose not to do so as rbruschey and kid have done, outting or attempting to out a poster as Yoss and samy0 have done, it has become imperrative that the guidelines be enforced fairly by the moderating team, especially when one of them commits the infraction. The locking of the city council meeting forum by Yoss is an abuse of his or her mandate to be fair. It is of note that both samy0 and Yoss are still posting after violating the basic guarantee of internet annomynity. samy0 claims that I outted myself Yoss used his authority to out someone else because he believed, incorrectly as it turned out, that he believed one of the posters was using 2 screen names based on his lack of knowledge of how ip addresses are assigned. If more than one computer has the same provider as in my actv.net he assumed that the same person was using both computers.Yoss has never apologized for doing so and samy0 is well samy0.

I agree that we should move on but only if webbie enforces the guidelines strictly.

Wrong forum. Please move it to the web site forum. This has nothing to do with "Washington County News".

Frankly I'd like to see the City of Hagerstown poltical discussions moved into their own forum, but then again, nobody seems to have much else to say about anything else going on in the entire county.

since when is there a gaurantee of anonimity on the internet. If someone figures out who you are, that's your fault for being so easy to read.

To anyone having a beef with how moderation is dealt with on this web site, consider for a moment, the idea of pleasing everyone all the time. Not possible, unfortunately.

Yoss and I are only human. We make mistakes also. Consider that. As much as we'd like to think we're right all the time,( wink.gif ), we realize this is not possible and take all forms of criticism seriously.

On the subject of fairness, I have, (as I'm sure past and present mods have also), been very concerned with fairness. We are called upon to step on the toes of members we may call friends in the name of fairness. I've been asked before how I can easily side with certain members when everyone knows them to be notorious and even rude. The reason simply is because I find them to be correct and fair in the specific issue at hand.

Our brand of moderation is very flexible and forgiving. This is for the benefit of ALL of us. I think the majority of the regular users of this web site prefer it this way. How many of us would rather have a strict policy? Few, I bet.

We try to interfere as little as possible. Yoss and I enjoy the website as regular posting members. I can't speak for Yoss, but I see moderation as a sidenote to my participation here. This site usually requires very little moderation. Why can't we keep it that way?

I know of a couple of forums that hold much more strict court. They openly denounce democracy. Moderators have final say on everything and are not required to explain themselves...at all.

All that having been said people, realize that it's alright to disagree with each other. If I disagree with you, you don't have to hate me and list me as your mortal enemy for life. Do you agree with everything your best buds say all the time?

We are all passionate about our views. We get upset and emotional. If you find your hackles raised, take time out of this place. Several members like to take siestas now and then. We get on each other's nerves and force ourselves to not come here for a bit.

We can disagree and get along, people. I insist!

On the other hand, members can accept some responsibility here as well. Those of you that must have the last word. Those of you that pull the "he started it first" argument. Those of you that bait each other and the ones that gladly take the bait.

There is an ignore feature readily available for your use. PM me if you don't understand how to use it.

We can disagree and still get along, people. I insist! smile.gif

Yeah! And if you don't like it they secretly fly you to another country and torture you.

No wait a minute, that's the CIA.

Nevermind.

that can be arranged here, idiot. If a couple black Suburbans pull up in front of your house late at night, be very afraid.

Just FYI, i absolutly agree with what Heather posted above and totally agree with her.

Webbie put her trust in us, and I think we both take that trust seriously. We are also posters here, and provide our own opinions. Sometimes those opinions are agreeable and sometimes not so agreeable.

StormchaserWV makes an excellent point. If you provide enough information you will eventually out your own dumb azz. There is no guarantee of anonimity on the internet. NONE, NADA, NYET, NON. Do you hear me? No reasonable expectation of privacy -- by the very nature of the internet. If you post, email, sign in or otherwise access the internet, you are giving up your privacy. It's just like walking down the street. People can see where you came from and they can see where you are going.

There are people on here making outrageous accusations. They really need to do a little research before they shoot off their pie holes.

If anyone has a problem with the way I moderate, pm me. or pm webbie. I'm willing to discuss anything with anyone here. But don't call me a "Dick" like someone in pm did today. My name is John, not "Dick".

I don't know why heather or I just posted what we did. the topic starter will probably have deleted this by morning. If that happens, i will personally see to it that every post they start will be put in queue and be preapproved by a moderator before it hits the board.

Thank you and have a pleasant day.

Yes, I am laughing my a** off laugh.gif

Lets stop beating around the bush here. The moderators here do a fair and competant job and make this a site that people want to come to. This has NOTHING to do with Webbie, the mods, or fairness. This is all about Looky and myself not seeing eye to eye on 99% of topics and vehemently arguing over them. I have had disagreements over points of view with people here before as have most of the regular posters. I've had Heather, Webbie, and Yoss admonish me when I was wrong and deserved it. The recent problem about names or ID's was never a problem on this board until a certain person AFTER telling everyone who he was
decided that probably wasn't the smartest of moves and cried foul to Webbie and others at the H/M. That person then deleted his or her ID and came up with a new one so nobody would know who he or she was.
The problem is if I delete Samy0 and come in here tomorrow as Steve0 and keep harping on THE SAME things and post the SAME viewpoints its not really that hard for someone to figure out who you are!
I have been read the guidelines and rules speech by Webbie and Heather (she even called me mean) sad.gif
and I have tried to rectify the situation. Obviously my counterpart would rather make this a big deal and continue to harass mods and members with PM's and posts about how "wronged" he or she feels. I have apologized once and I'll do it again if I have to but can we please act like adults and keep this between us instead of involving the whole community with this petty nonsense? If i am a mod and I have to hear about this everyday I'd want to kill someone! In closing, sorry for your extra headache from whatever has transpired with Looky and hopefully if we can ALL act like adults this won't be a problem in the future.

BTW> Its obviously a slow news week when this gets its own thread! I long for the old days of Gay Klansmen protesting the abortion clinic biggrin.gif
