I know there are plenty of you here and wasn't sure who to ask so I'll just throw out my problem and see if anyone has got a fix for me.

My CD-Rom (D) is not showing up on my computer. My daughter got something with a disc to download so I put it in and nothing happened. I tried to start it manually by hitting the search key and my C drive is there but no (d) drive. I cant figure out where it is or what happened to it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Try going to the Control Panel in Windows. One of the options to click on should be "Add New Hardware" or something similar. Then there should be an option to let it search for new hardware or to add it yourself. Let it search and see if it finds your CD drive. If it does, it should install the drivers for you. If it doesn't find it, try to add it manually by following the prompts.

If that doesn't work, I'll have to think about it some more.

A laptop I am repairing just starting doing that. I would try the ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD and also look for loose connections to the drive (power and data cables) and the motherboard (data cable). I am pretty sure mine has loose connections (I had the whole thing apart 2 times).

Google: help"no d drive"

You'll get hundreds of returns mostly from forums just like this one. You can narrow the search based on model, operating system, and s/w.

Usually hardware related, I've had the problem twice and both times it was a bad drive.

Good luck.

I've had so few pieces of hardware actually fail in a computer, I rarely give that a thought. Definately a consideration, though. My problems usually stem from Windoze.

If you didn't make any changes to the bios or disable it accidentally... and after checking the power and comm cables, and it still doesn't work, its probably failed.

Time for a new one. smile.gif

After you replace it and the new one doesn't work, it could be the main board which is the beginning of a downward spiral. sad.gif

Agreed.

Last few times I have run across this it was due to a bad drive.
