Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime
QUOTE
Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Good thing the H-M forums are a role-model for peace, love and understanding ;}

He's probably been annoyed at everyone on here at one time or another but I think you're at the top of the list right now. wink.gif

there's people on here that would file false charges of annoying, but B is not the first name that comes to mind... somewhere down near the "L's".

Panic over: This is just a popular MISINTERPRETATION of the new law that has been debunked. All the new law does is it applies telephone harrassment laws to VOIP phone calls, closing that loophole.

The same law still explicitily excludes interactive computer services such as this and other internet discussion forums.

This is old, bad news based on a popular misunderstanding that has since been refuted That could be why nobody has posted about it in 2 days...

Eugene Volokh, UCLA Law Professor, begs to differ.

Well he's wrong, and so are you. Guess maybe I'll have to sue your sorry a*** and let the courts sort it out...

Go for it Big. And while we're at it, lets pick the jury pool from your congregation wink.gif

I did find it interesting that this new law was passed just as you started mining the forum archives for old posts of mine to throw out in an attempt to ANNOY/HARRASS me.

The only problem is I just don't give a darn, so even if you did have evil intent, I can't say I suffered any damages.

Though as I said, most people are coming around to see that this new law isn't really what you say it is - it's all just hype and misinformation. If it weren't, the courts could be packed for decades with related cases.

Of course all I'd really need do is legally change my name to Big Man Incounty.

Wow, then we would have our fifteen minutes of fame for being the case that caused the Supreme Court to declare the law unconstitutional.

Go ahead, do it B. I dare you.

You don't have the gonads. tongue.gif

Chicken! Braawk... buck buck, braawk!

You big wuss!

B is a fraidy cat! tongue.gif B is a fraidy cat!

Is that annoying enough?

Took Biggie over half and hour to reverse course. We'd appreciate it if you'd shave your 180 intervals down to about 10 mins 'k?

Great... that's two of the stooges. Now where'd Curly run off to - I mean tattoomeb?

I call B.S.- if you really did believe this new law makes posting messages on discussion boards that are intended to annoy someone a Federal offense, then you would've stopped doing so yourself. So you've got to admit that at least I've won THIS argument!

Is that a reference to me Yoss?? tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif While I do get annoyed at some posters on these forums I will defend the right of all to annoy me to the death except those who use their position to attempt to out another poster.

I'm not sure whats more tiring copyright law or the whole "outing" conspiracy!
I still say if your dumb enough to post your name nobody is outing you! I do hear the FBI is on the way to H-town to investigate some other complaints so you might want to call ahead and reserve your place in line. Or better yet. You could write a letter to the editor about the whole outing thing. Seems the local officials haven't done anything stupid lately so the H/M is waiting for a good story laugh.gif
