A new acquaintence gave me an e-mail address that ends with @sbcglobal.net but I cannot get a message through. Does anyone know why? This is the only means of contact that I have so I would appreciate your assistance.

I googled "sbcglobal email problems" and found a couple of message board posts that indicate others having the same problem. Something about over-restrictive settings on SBC's end that blocks some emails due to their IP address range. I'm assuming it's a spam blocking measure gone wrong on SBC's part.
If your local ISP won't get through to your friend, maybe you can try a free Yahoo, Hotmail, or Google mail account to see if that's accepted.
Good luck!

yup, sman's got it right. sbc is a little too aggressive in blocking ip addresses... that is, email from certain internet service providers.

Exactly you guys!! My best friend moved to Tx and has them for her tv,phone and internet. I cound'nt send her a thing! Finally she got a hotmail addie.Tried to talk her into a yahoo addie so we could instant message but the hussy wouldn't do it for some bass-ackward reason!
Tell your friend on the phone to get a free addie somewhere.

Thanks to all for your assistance. I've tried the Hotmail and Yahoo with no luck ... I will try the Google next. But, it appears that WVDragonlady is correct and I will need to encourage my friend to subscribe to a different e-mail address. Again, thanks everyone!

I have a similar problem when I try to send an email from my hotmail account to my husband's work account. It used to work, but now I can't send it. My guess was they tightened their firewall to block hotmail. SBC may block hotmail, too. Good luck!

first thing to check is if your IP is on a blacklist.
check that because more than likely your computer is a zombie and is on a list somewhere.
sbc is huge, and i would not have your friend change their email because you can't send to him/her.

What email program do you use (Outlook, Outlook Express, T-Bird, etc.)? Or do you use a web based mail service (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo)?

Try this:
- along the top of the Outlook Express window, click on the word "Tools"
- scroll down to "Options" and click on it
- click on the tab along the top that says "Read"
- just above the "OK" button at the bottom is a button labeled "Fonts". Click on the "Fonts" button
- you should then see a drop down menu in the middle labeled "Font Size". Your choices should be smallest/smalller/medium/larger/largest. Pick one
- Click "OK"
I tested this in Outlook Express 6. I hope it works for you.
