It feels that we all have been reprimanded with the thread to MCBEANIE closed.

So is it ok to talk about McBean still or is that off limits completely on this Forum.

Heather closed the thread, I think, because it was going way off topic. It was becoming a thread to bash fellow posters (which I am, myself, guilty of doing).

McBean is not off limits, but if we start another thread, I think we need to limit ourselves to that subject specifically.

I believe the reason the thread was shut down was because it was started as a McBean thread and turned into a "Top 10 reasons to be a racist" thread. If everyone could have stayed on topic the thread would still be up and running. Seems to me the moderators are doing their job. If you want to talk about your racial preferences just start a thread about that. If you want to continue talking about mcBean start a new thread
and try not to pin everything she did on her race

MCBEAN was still the root of the thread and it progressed ( or regressed ) to the question was she using racisum as her defense .

i read nothing bad enough to shut it down , if 2 0r 5 people want to verbaly duke it out so what , i'm sure that all parties will give as much as they get and after we spout off the matter is yesterdays news .

people who use this type of comuncation are opinionated free thinkers and have the right to speak , even if someone is offended, it is only temperary ..

what they say is their honest opinion so what in hell is wrong with honesty ??????? if someone gets their toes steped on maybe they should not have had them in the way ...........

you always speak and write well my friend and i always consider your thoughts and opinions , although i disagree often i am sure that you are not anoyed by it , hell , once we blow our tops it's all over .

Rowdy>> as I've stated to you before. I think every once in a while you come up with something that I agree with %100 but sometimes your delivery of that message makes it hard to wrap my head around.
I have no problem with you speaking your mind and you have a right to. I just think once we got to the 5th page of nothing to do with the original topic and all about race it is time to move it to its own topic. I probably don't agree with anything you or several others stated about race but that doesn't make you wrong or me right. I just wish everyone could have kept their focus on the task at hand which was to hold Ms. McBean accountable for her actions. As many visitors as this site gets it would have been nice to keep that topic open so people could get an idea of what is happening. I think right now Ms. McBean is a bigger problem for the city than racial division.

Oh, and any complaints you have about the web site should go under the heading, "website" not "washington county."

Did the thought ever occur to you that other people are reading these threads? That not everyone wants to scan through long posts and pages of people duking it out? Some are actually ONLY interested in what others have to say about the McBean incident and NOT how we all feel about each other and what happened to someone in high school back in 1979 and who we like and dislike. Some don't want to wade through pages of mudslinging to, every one in awhile, find a tidbit about the thread topic.

I know of one person who publically posted that the threadjackings around here were irritating and they do not post here anymore.

To squabble and sling mud is natural and tolerated at a low roar. When it starts to consume the whole thread, it gets tiresome for some people.


Edit: also remember that we have private messages that we can use to bash each other over the head with whatever we choose. If Jane wants to call a John a loser, she can send him a private message, (PM). That way, no one else will have to be bothered by it.

Gee Heather we think the mods were a day late and a dollar short on this one.

I repeat what I said in that thread. If you were going to flex your moderators powers yet again, the time to have done it was after two or three pages of off-topic B.S. By the time you took action, the thread had long ceased being about any particular topic and had for days been nothing but a somewhat entertaining free-for-all. Then you come in an squash it, one can only assume because you personally didn't like the way the free-ranging nonsense was heading at the moment.

If you had dealt with it 40 pages sooner, I would've said fine, she's being a Moderator, taking control. At the point you finally did jump in, you just came off looking like a party pooper. Either we can freely talk, or we can't. You Mods need to make up your minds instead of playing it both ways.

Well, I'm speaking for myself here, and not Heather.

But if you, or anyone else for that matter, feels a need to close a thread for whatever reason, please feel free to let us know in the thread or by pm. I personally don't read all the topics posted here and can't mod the entire site without help.

Thead closings are not frequent here. Less than what? a half dozen in the history of the forum? The mods are not here to stifle.. on the contrary, I think we encourage by not censoring or closing topics.

It seems that we're dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.

This is not particularly directed to you, B, but to everyone.

Let the mods know if you feel something is inappropriate or needs some other action.

It's no big deal, jenpoo and hagopinion. We all get messy and lazy with our forum etiquette, and some just don't know any better. Me and Yoss just try to tidy up the pile every once in awhile. We've all been guilty of it from time to time. It's just that a lot of contributing factors piled up in that particular thread. It was no one person's fault.

If you're interested, there are guidelines in the upper left corner of this site. Basically we do our best to stay on topic, be nice to each other and not attempt to identify each other.

No big. Enjoy the site.

FWIW, IMHO, closing threads should almost NEVER be neccesary, and it wasn't in this case. Those of us who chose to continue the free-ranging discussion did so, and the rest of you were free to go away and ignore it.

The only time you should close a thread is when some spammer comes on and obviously starts abusing the space. Otherwise, this place has always been very open to letting people take discussions wherever they want to, and I think that is good. We can and will police ourselves even if it's not as much as you busybodies would like, and that is all that is needed.

Reinstate!
