I really have a hard time with Panic Attack's, it stops me from doing more with my life than i really want to. Panic Attack's affect people in different way's, some think they are dying, other's think they are going to loose control. My heart goes out to others who suffer with them, i wouldn't wish them on the devel himself. I would more than LOVE to start a support group with other's who suffer with panic attacks, and depression, i think it would help a lot of people. I feel venting, knowing your not alone, and support is very helpfull. I started getting them when i was fifteen, i go threw long periods with out them, than bang for some odd reason they hit me again. In School i didn't apply myself because of the panic attacks, as you all know i rough it out with spelling, and a lot more. As a young girl, my dreams was to be a Vet, or Hair Dresser, those Dreams went stright down the drain. I'm a people person, i love being around other's, it makes me feel good, i love to laugh, i have found that laughter is the best medicine. When thing's get tough I live threw my Son's eye's this simplifies life !! My Husband, and Family are so supportive, I thank GOD i have them. The on thing that help's me more than anything is our pet's. We have two dog's, Molly who is 12 now, and Sophie who will be 4 this summer, we also have a cat named Bubba, he is six months old, i found him on a farm, i feel in love with him, but he was to young to be taken away from his Mother, so i went up and visited him a few times a week, from being outside he was really getting sick so was his two brothers, so i ask the farmers if i could take them, they said yes. I spent mega buck's on them kittens, but they got better, i found the other two home's, but Bubba is mine. Bubba don't think he a cat, he act's like a dog. We also have a Bird we call him Sweet Pea, he's still a baby, he is so cute. My dream prt is an Arrican Grey, i love those bird's they are so funny, but times are rough with money right now, so i'll put that on hold. My Son and I raised hampsters, rabbit's, and guniea pig's, we did that for two year's than i stopped it. I miss it, but i do not miss the mess, that was a lot of work. Sometime's it feels like life deals us a bad hand...........

Un,
Have you gone to a doctor? There is medication out there that is not addictive....BuSpar. Could help you live a full life without panic attacks. Talk to a doctor or psychiatrist soon. No need to live that way if the medication can help.
By the way, this place can be a panic attack all by itself!! j/k

Been there, done that, didn't even get a lousy T-Shirt.
Sorry to hear you struggle so much with this, Un! Checkingin is right if you aren't already you really should be sure you're under the care of a good Psychiatrist. There are meds that can help a lot, though no one pill works for everyone all the time as I know too well from personal experience.
The good news is that I also know from personal experience that this stuff can go into complete remission for years, or even for good - I keep praying mine has been a total and permanent healing and I am getting pretty confident after more than 10 years of health. So hang in there, take each day as it comes, and make sure you never give up on trying to get yourself the best care you can!

UN,
I want to also agree with B. I probably should not have put a medication out there. There are many
medications, as B has posted. And, sometimes, BuSpar does not work for people. But, there are other med
cations as well. Also, if you are not already, it would help to get into therapy. It really can help alot.
Exercise that makes you sweat, breathing deeply and holding it to the count of 5 and slowly releasing, and try to limit anything with caffeine in it. Caffeine can really bring on more panic.
I hope all this can help. There is alot of hope.

Thank You Both, yes it help's, it help's me to know i'm not alone and you two cared enough to respond. This forum help's me alot also, typing, thinking, you just don't know how i enjoy all of you in here. I spend more time reading, and writing back to you all than my Family, and Friend's. I feel like you all are my Family, and it happened so fast, i know we all have our own opinons and disagree, but we alway's work it out. I use to talk to my friends and family on the phone alot, it's crazy like me, but i would much rather see what you all are up to!!! I'm very-very glad my friend told me about this Forum. I hope to be part of it for a long time.
Thank You All

Down the drain? You can still do it! I just decided to go back to school recently and it's going to take me forever to finish, but I can't think of a good reason not to try. A girl in class the other day asked me if I was in a sorority.

Hubby went through a series of panic attacks a few years ago that landed him in the ER twice, thinking he was having a heart attack. After numerous visits to cardiologists for stress tests, monitors, and so on, and then on to the neurologist for MRI's and more tests, the doc finally determined it was panic/stress. He took Lexapro for a while and gradually went off it. Hasn't really had any problems in a while. His doctor suggested a book,
The Relaxation Response. He checked it out from the library (it's 155.9042B on the shelf in the non-fiction section

). It's a small paperback, about 120 pages, and has several good tips, in his opinion. Check out
the library catalog...type relaxation in the search box and leave it on word or phrase, and you'll find all kinds of related materials, from books, to e-books you can download onto your computer, to DVDs that you can check out.
It's never too late to go back to school, Un. It may be a struggle, but you can always go one class at a time, and eventually you'll get there!! I'm doing it, so can you! I don't know anything about that beauty school on Antietam Street, but I'm sure you could work out some kind of arrangement if that's your heart's desire. Go for it! Regarding panic attacks, they are the body's reaction to stress (think of the body as soaking up stress like a sponge - each drop is no different than any others, but just one drop could also be the limit). They can be unexpected and uncued (coming out of the blue) or they can be the result of a specific stimulus (ex: going to Wal-Mart). They can also be random (sometimes happens when you go to Wal-Mart, sometimes not). That's the crappy part and what makes them so debilitating, a fear of fear. One in three people will experience at least one panic attack some point during their life. Often times they can mimic medical issues (explains all the medical tests momsapilot's husband went through). During a panic attack people really feel as if they are dying. Onset, peak and comedown are usually all within 20 minutes.
For those who suffer panic attacks often, treatment techniques usually involve social skills training, a combination of behavioral and cognitive therapies that would allow the person to view the situation more rationally and learn managing techniques in which to cope. Relaxation training (training body to relax when faced with anxiety-causing stimulus), repeated thinking about the stimulus, and actually facing it head on (ex: going to Wal-Mart repeatedly until symptoms are no longer present).

There is NO WAY that repeatedly going to WalMart is ever going to cure me! Every time I go, it seems worse. I've needed a pill cutter for hubby's meds for 2 months now; I've been there twice now, and get so upset over the number of people and the number of rude people in one little space, that I forget to buy it. I sliced the heck out of my hand Saturday morning because I was using a butchering knife to cut his pills, and it slipped. I think I'd rather cut off all of my fingers than go in that place!

Sheash,
Just drive to Wal-Marts parking lot, park your car and sit for 5 to 10 mins., than drive back home, do this as many time's as you can in a week or so, than drive to Wal-Mart, park your car, get out and walk in, DO NOT put high expectations on yourself or you will set yourself up for failure. Stand in Wal-Mart for 5 or 10 mins. and leave, the more you do this the easier it will become. If you are thinking that Wal-Mart is triggering the panic attack's than as soon as you get there you will get one, right now it's Wal-Mart, what happens if it happens at the Mall, Target, JCPenney's, and so on, than will you stay away from all of those place's also?? NO you can't, e-mail me i'll try to help you help yourself..........................

I know exactly how you feel I have never suffered panic attacks but have had bouts of mild depression.I currently do not need medication but medication does help .I also am an animal lover have been since childhood.I currently have 2 dogs ,1 cat ,&7 birds( one of them is an Africian Grey)I was very lucky to get him he only cost 300 dollars when I got him & he wasnt even a year old yet.My husbands cousin was desperate for money & sold the bird & cage for that price.Animals are a big comfort for me also.My 6year old dog got out of the yard last summer & got hit.He broke his back & the vet didnt think he would be able to walk.I was devastated.Thank God he recovered enough that he can walk ,run ,jump,But has no bladder control so he has special needs.I have to take him outside & stimulate his bladder for him to empty it.To me its worth having him around longer ,he is not in any pain.I will be praying for you but remember life gives you hard times but there are many more good times.

That would mean I wouldn't be able to call Yoss an old perv.

Nope, I'm not agreeing to those terms at all.

I just think it would be nice to help each other out during our hard time's, we arn't professional's, but we are all HUMAN, and we have all delt with difficult time's. In this Tread the people who did respond all sounded like prfessional's, your advice was so caring, and supportive. So what do you say everyone?, should we try it, or leave it alone??
We've been doing this on the forum as a whole. There's specifically a big section at the bottom of the forums for this called "getting a little help from my friends." Or something to that effect.
I'm glad this thread was so productive and to be honest, I'm pretty amazed that there weren't more smartasses poking in to say smartass things. But this thread was for you and you only, Un. We can't all post our troubles in here, because then we'd only have one thread. Everyone else will have to start their own threads for their own specific problems under the correct topic headings...otherwise we'd just have one big messy, unorganized thread.

Unbelieveable, anyone who would have attacked you while discussing such a serious matter would have to be a heartless person.Panic disorders can keep you a prisoner in your own home. The fact that you are going to go to Beauty School is a great accomplishment.
Dear Jennpoo,
What kind of bird's do you have??, i have a Parrolet and a Love Bird, i want a African Grey, but at this point there is NO way, i would love to breed bird's, i think it would be fun. Thank You Jenn for alway's supporting me, your so sweet, i like you so much. If you ever want my phone number, e-mail me....
I have 3 doves,3 cocketiels,& my Africian Grey.I used to breed my cocketiels but only one bird each time would live.(I gave them to family members)I also used to have a sun conure but it died.Sometimes the Franklin Shopper has birds for sale that are much cheaper than pet stores maybe when you are able you can find one there .I always wanted a macaw but we really dont have the room for one.We keep the birds in our living room because they need human interaction. Thanks I might just e mail or pm you sometimes it seems like we have a lot in common.

Heather,
I LOVE animals so does Jenn, when you raise bird's you take them away from the Mother at two week's old, than you hand feed them, it takes alot of LOVE, than they will forever LOVE who buy's them, they don't remember being with their Mother, they remember bonding with the human who fed them.

Now, Ud, had I been told by someone who was worth a speck of dust, I might have to ponder a response, but seeing how it was Un. I continue my board enjoyment and antagonizing.

mod edit: please, a little less antagonizing. Continued antagonizing for the sake of antagonizing will not be tolerated. Mod's have the ability to queue post responses, allowing them to post only after review. This feature has never been used...
