I didn't know that. I usually have a wasp problem under and around my deck. They seem to like to set up shop there.

The carpenters don't bother me, but scare the crap out of my wife.

Does anyone else have the bees/beetles that swarm right above the ground in the summer? I think they live underground & just come up in the morning as the sun warms up the ground. We have them every year & they only come out at the beginning of summer for about 3-4 weeks & then I never see them again. Some years it's really bad & as I sit out on the deck drinking a cup of coffee - it's like they are everywhere totally covering the yard!

laugh.gif unsure.gif I have bees in my storm door, they found a hole in the bottom and seem to have nested in the frame. When I leave the house there are few by my ankles. They go their way and I go mine, no problems. At first, we noticed a muted buzzing and then figured it out. Needless to say, the door is coming down toady. Time to head to Loewe's.

Pandora - I had those underground yellow jackets years ago at a house I was renting. They were living in a small sink hole in the back yard. I was mowing one day and found them by running the mower over the hole. The swarm attacked me and my (then puppy) dog. We both got tagged a few times, but luckily, they were little midgets and didn't have much punch to their stingers.

I'm not quite sure if they are bees. They may be some type of beetle. They are pretty big & there are literaly hundreds of them in the mid morning. They disappear by noon. They swarm above the ground - it's really weird. We have the carpenter bees also, but they usually stay down by the barn so I don't think they are the same...

I remember when I was about 7 yrs old, I was wandering around the yard and found a brick laying in the grass. I moved the brick and got swarmed on; my dad had just found the next when he was mowing the grass and threw a brick on it. I don't remember how many stings I had, but ever since then, wasps and hornets are a sworn enemy. Bees don't bother me so much.

OK the big beetle things flying all over the yard are the result of the big grubs that are eating your grass roots. "June Beetles". When it rains do you see big ugly grubs in your driveway? Hows your yard look? The big "bumble-bee" lookin wood bees will make a hole in a board just big enough to crawl into and eat the whole way through a board, end to end. They dont sting. They do acrobatics in the air crashin into each other and buzzin and hoverin in your face. Look closely, they have a white head.

June Beetles... Hummm.... We don't have any big grubs in the driveway that I've ever seen. Our yard sucks... We live on a little over an acre but it's very hilly, rolly & bumpy. I would love to have the whole thing excavated & re-seeded but I couldn't even guess how much THAT would cost! We definately have the carpenter bees, too. Little holes in the wood with a pile of saw dust laying underneath on the ground. Ah, the joys of home ownership! biggrin.gif

So sorry to hear that she really brightened the forum up. Maybe that is why it has been so dark lately. She was like that little sunshine on the Jimmy Dean commercials.

Rainy days and stagnant water, it has been slow on here for wee bit, nothing new. It happens. Can not attribute it to one person, happens from time to time over the years. Online forums have peaks and dips. You know the dips when we start recycling. New members will come and add to the flavor. Share their personality, information, and make it fun again. And the old steadies will keep the engine churning.

biggrin.gif Come on our you lurkers and nicely mix it up. We welcome you, lets play nice and have a fun online exchange. Life on a forum.

The Dog Show is on TV, it is a hoot. They are so fun and cute. My dogs would not do well, one sits down during walks, the other is always jumping into creeks.

There was a story on the news this morning about a mother going deaf after being kissed by her daughter.

Sounds like a little more than a kiss.

That's exactly what I said when I heard the headline on the news. They said "kiss" and I said "no way." Then during the report they described it as sucking, like a vacuum, that's not quite a kiss.

Did anybody see this...
