Does anyone have experience with both?
I'm considering swtiching from Antietam Cable to DirecTV and would like to get some feedback. Right now I have digital cable with the HD and DVR package, and its nice, but its so freakin' expensive... plus my cable internet on top of that. My cable bill each month is close to $140!
The HD package is almost a waste of money since I only get about 4 or 5 channels that I actually watch but the picture is so nice.
I looked at the prices on DirecTV's site but would like some consumer feedback. When I bought my house this past summer, they left me their dish, so I already have that up and wired. I'd just need the box and package.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Phluxx,
We have Direct TV at our house. Very good and reasonable.
Something to consider: If Verizon is your phone company, you can bundle your services Phone/DSL/DirectTV, and receives some package discounts. That is what we have and are pleased so far.
I can not speak to the HD part yet. I'm not sold on it, not enough choices yet.

Well, right now I don't have a residential line... my cell phone is my only phone. However, I have considered getting a phone just so I can get DSL because its packages are faster than Antietam's for cheaper.
I also forgot to mention Dish Network. I'll have to look on their site, but if someone has experience with that as well, I'd like to hear it.
Antietam advertises about outages and static with DirecTV, do you experience an unusual amount of that?
My main reason for doing this is to lower my cost, and losing as little as possible.

I think the only "ace in the hole" that cable has over satellite right now is the On Demand service. That technology just isn't possible via satellite. On Demand is cool, but I doubt that most people use it.
cful - what choices aren't offered yet in hi-def to make it compelling enough?

I just haven't seen enough choices.
Additionally I'm not ready to pay the high price for the Technology. I'm one of those who wait for the price to come down.

I have noticed that sat companies don't offer as many HD channels as cable. When I looked into switched to sat, they didn't offer (for free) receivers that are capable of receiving the HD channels. You had to buy that yourself and the cheapest ones were $500.
Speaking of pricing, it reminds me of when Antietam starting offering the HD channels. They advertise it as $10 extra a month, which I thought was reasonable for the extra channels. I go to sign up and find out you have to have the digital cable package before you can get the HD channels. My extra $10 a month turned into an extra $26 a month. It sucks, but by then, I already had the HDTV and my heart set on watch sports in hi def.
