I'm thinking of having some blacktop paving done. Does anyone have any experience with Antietam Paving in Keedysville?

I'll do the std. MHIC and BBB check, but word of mouth is valuable, too.

Honestly, I know nothing about blacktop contractors in your area. But good luck getting them to show up! The neighbor got onto a waiting list 3 years ago, just got his blacktop a couple of weeks ago. We've been trying to get a different guy to show up since last fall, no luck yet.

Heck, even the township is about useless; our road is tar and chip, and there are several holes in it big enough to swallow my car. But they are playing PennDOT's game - RideNHide!

I have worked with Jeter Paving for some commercial work and they were very good.

Ditto for Jeter. They're a reputable, local family owned company and have been around for over 30 years, at least. But busy time is here for that kind of work, so you should try to book whoever you decide on soon.

Thanks all -- Antietam was a low bid, and they made a neighbor quite happy. Just wanted to get another angle.

As a follow-up... Antietam was...marginal. They provided no use/care guidance after laying the blacktop, and a few problems that cropped up a week or so later got me the "so what--nothing we can do about it" response. The guy was kinda rude after getting paid.

Of course some local contractors that were even advertising for business at the time didn't even return phone calls requesting a bid. Craig and Rafferty were two of them.

If they won't back up their work, Snoopy, contact the Maryland Home Improvement Commission with Antietam's MHIC registration number. MHIC is a pretty strong agency that doesn't take any crap.

antietam did a driveway next door , theres a big puddle between his house and his garage , rafferty did the housesdriveway on the other side of me, his sunk in spots to , he fixed it up. i got him to come over to give me a price on my driveway, 13,000, i said ill get back to you.

MCAFEE ASPHALT did the most wonderful job on a friends house on Gay St. Very upfront, price very reasonable, willing to take care of any problems. He will return next year and seal coat the blacktop and it's
included in the original purchase price. He had a very tough job going up against a fence and house, very time consuming, but he did not change the price. TRY THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THEM.

I am in no way connected with this company, other than my friends happiness with the job performed.


They also had a large amount of old unstable blacktop to remove, they left NO mess.Two other companies wanted to just put new blacktop over the old. Bad old blacktop does not help to have new put on it. Waste of money. This gentleman was honest enough to say he would not do that, because it was sinking underneath. Graded it , new stone, blacktop--GREAT job!!!
Stay away from Henry's Blacktop and Antietam- both bad attutide.
Also, don't rely on anything from the BBB, company's pay for membership. BBB does not want to say anthing bad about it's members. Readers Digest did an expose' on the BBB, even after many complaints against companys, BBB gave them high marks for quality and performance.
