I know a guy who is always buying movies... he has a HUGE DVD collection.
I know another guy who is obsessed with things for his car.
I happen to have a deep and abiding fascination with shoes. I love shoes.
Anyone else have something they're compelled to buy?

I used to collect those little perfume miniatures. Because the bottles were pretty, not because I like perfume. One of the cutest was Salvador Dali. The cap was a nose and the bottle was lips.

But then the collection got so big that it got in the way and got on my nerves. So I chucked it.
My aversion to clutter and my love for simplicity doesn't allow for much crap to be hanging around. I love throwing things away too much.

For some reason I'm compelled to buy old table linens.Dresser scarves, table cloths, napkins
Now,just for me..I collect Dragons.(go figure huh?) But not all those statues

I collect unusual stuff. Like I have desk a clock shaped like an egg with a baby dragon hatching,a pewter toothbrush holder,2 teapots,a dragon candle warmer(he holds the glass in his mouth for the candle wax to melt in), I have a couple of toy dragons( my favorite is from a barbie movie and she's pink with purple wings and you press her tummy and she talks and says things like "let's tell secrets" and " I AM a mighty Dragon!"),dragon jewelry, dragon shirts,a set of dragon flags(small ones that represent the four elements),I have a walking stick that I use for a costume at the Ren Faire that is hand carved and has a dragon standing on it's hind legs clawing the air.

I'm old enough to be a "used to" kinda person. Used to collect tea pots and pretty china. Still love it and love looking at it at antique stores. Love the old 'blueblue" pattern of china. Just can't spend my money that way anymore. I collected some nice pieces of Limoges cloverleaf. Have enough now.
If I had money to spend, I would collect really nice pieces of rocks and minerals too. I had a collection when I was young. Always thought of them as the "flowers" under the earth! Love looking at sparkly things and can't afford diamonds!

Quartz, and tiger's eye, geodes, stuff like that. So pretty. Will probably still start a collection one day.

Heather, I used to have the that Dali bottle, too! How funny!
But I thought you collected belly button lint....or was that Yoss??
Me, I like lighthouses and nautical things, but the guest room that is decorated that way is as full of such stuff as it can be without becoming distasteful and scary for guests, so I don't really collect anything anymore....unless dust bunnies count!

You had the nose and lips Dali bottle too! And all that time I had it, I thought it was so original and rare. Pffft!
The belly button lint does sound familiar. I'll have to search for that tidbit in a minute. Sounds like something weird Yoss would do. Not me.
Lighthouses...I used to frequent a restaurant/bar that had lighthouses as a theme. They had some nice trinkets and pictures.

Bunny references everywhere on the board lately. We're all being subliminally cheerful about Easter!
Bunny power!

I don't really collect much, but my fiancee collects so much stuff that I don't think I will be able to fit it all in our new house!!! On the bright side though she is easy to buy presents for! She collects purses, beanie babies, Longaberger Baskets & Pottery, Nascar collectibles, Little Wings Figurines, and Precious Moments Figurines.

Books - tactical military history for the most part. The classics that I never finished when they were required reading. The odd novelist.

How about some WW2 recommendations on that topic? In one of the book threads, of course.

I recently read a book that was an hour by hour deconstruction of the Battle of Midway called "Shattered Sword".
I buy a lot of stuff, mostly electronics and books, but I usually try to sell it or give it away when I upgrade or finish with it. I guess the only things I can say I collect are Stephen King books. I have all of them, with most of them since the late '80's being first editions (if that even means anything).

Those first editions might be worth something when he dies.I'd hang onto them

They're worth something now. A first edition of Carrie in very good condition can go for up to $2,000.
I have all King's books, too, up until about Insomnia. Then I tapered off. Have a few post-Insomnia, but not every single one.
Mine are mostly tattered paperbacks, though. Worth nothing, except maybe $2 from the used bookstore.

I have a purse fetish

I also collect antiques of all varieties and sizes. I have no more room for furniture, so I mostly go for the smaller stuff. My collections that I am actively adding to include egg cups and invalid/infant feeders.

"Belly Button Lint"...too funny.
I used to have a friend whose husband actually did collect his belly button lint. He'd stick it in a Pringles chip can and when it was full, he'd mail it to his uncle who used it to start the fire in his woodstove.
Gosh - gotta love those "creative" thinkers!

I am addicted to buying cd's. I stopped counting when I reached 5,000 !! I have no idea how many I have now. I also have way too many backpacks and flashlights. Needless to say, these things don't make my wife very happy !

Backpacks and flashlights...sounds like you were trapped underground in another life.
Hubby seems to "collect" coats and boots. I told him he must have been cold and barefoot in another life.

Oh, if that's true that's sooo gross!
I collected teddy bears for a time, horse figurines during my riding days, and depression glass. Over the past few years I seem to be unwillingly collecting clothes that no longer fit me because I've put on weight. I keep them in an extra closet for when I can get back into them!

I collect daylilies and Wizard of Oz stuff. Over the years I've bought enough roses that I should have a collection of them. I left the ones I was successfully growing in VA when I sold the house, and since 1997 have successfully killed every rose I've planted in PA - including the subzero roses!

I collect pens...
I just love old fountain pens...
I have learned to restore old pens also...
I am always on the look out for someone getting rid of old pens... Usually they are not worth much, but I love to try to repair them and get them back to writing condition.
I always carry at least 2 old fountain pens with me daily and that is all I write with anymore...
Yeah, Yeah, I know I am a throwback...
