Is it possible to close out those topics that appear not to attract any posts for a long time and have garnered almost no interest since they were proposed? Threads that do not stay on topic usually happen because the propopsed topic is overly broad and does not ask that everyone try to stay on topic. huh.gif huh.gif

Incidentally citypark it takes a very long time before you will not be considered anything but a newcomer, 20 years does not appear to be long enough for some here.

I really feel when a thread is started we all should steer away from race, gay's, and religion. Those are three issues people are sensitive to. I also feel when others jump off the topic the thread should NOT be shut down, the person should be given a warning if they do NOT obey the warning than they should be bandited from the Forum for how every long the Moderators decide.

Let's get real Moderators if you keep shutting the threads down, it's not fair to the other members who are being mature about it. If some members know if they jump off the topic the thread will be shut down, than it will become a game for some, i mean you have to know it's true just from reading old threads. I hope this makes since to you.

As for the Moderators i would NOT want your job's, you all put up with alot ! ( FACT ) Webbie, Yoss, and Heather i applaude you all............................

I can appreciate your views here, but sometimes it's not that simple.

Say a thread veers off topic and people are taunting each other excessively as well. A mod steps in to make a suggestion to cut out the taunts and get back on topic. Most times, the posters in the thread simply ignore the mod and continue however they feel it, or they tell them to mind their business and continue however they feel like.

At a certain point in the thread, it's so completely off topic and hot headed, that it's turned into a free for all where everyone feels like they owe someone else a taunt in reply. People just refuse to leave it. The posters that DO leave it, are instigated by others.

We get replies from people saying, "they started it first", "why can't I defend myself?" Then before long, the thread is off topic, full of hateful bashing AND discussion on how to properly moderate the situation is taking place.

What then, if not closure of the thread? People will just continue to have at it. They feel like they've been corrected by a teacher and treated like a child, so they turn on us.

It's a no win situation. People just refuse to act right. When someone asks them to stop, they lash out. Some people just like bashing each other over the head.

Why can't the off topic replys get deleted or moved? That would keep the topic on track and stop the bashing before it gets outta hand. It would require more time/effort on the mods part but thats what they get paid for, right? tongue.gif biggrin.gif

If the mods delete or move <GASP!> a reply, you have ppl on here threatening to sue the Herald Mail and whining about <free speech>.

BTW, I took my cue from city council and DONATE ALL my mod pay to non-worthy causes... laugh.gif

Yeah, what is it with people threatening to sue? they threaten to sue if someone posts something about them that they dont like. They threaten to sue if they cant say what they want.I thought that the Herald Mail cannot control every comment said & therefore is not legally responsible.(at least that is what my understanding of user policies are)I think that people need to understand that being a mod is not an easy job & take more responsibility for what they post & not blame the modsif they are reprimanded or a post is deleted.

Dear Heather,
Last night when i was posting my thoughts on how to make the forum better i including myself feel that me and some other members act like we are in third grade, and you, Yoss, and Webbie are our Teachers, it's sad we can't act like ADULT's. Heather remember that time you said " take a break for a while " that is why i stepped back and didn't post for a while, i didn't even come in to read, when i stepped back i felt refreashed, I missed all of you alot, you all have became my Family i really care about you all. I have gotten angry at lot's of people and acted like a fool, or CHILD it's just not worth it. I hope you all will except my apology. I really hope we Webbie, Yoss, Heather, and all the members can pull together as the team we really are, and get things resolved. We are the Community, we are all in this together, we don't alway's see eye to eye, if we can't pull together to get this Forum back on track i find it very sad. So let's FIGHT for the forum, we do a good job fighting each other, let's turn it around people, as i said we are a TEAM...............

Wait i can't let this go, i got really angry at Heather once, i felt she was picking with me like a inmature child i wrote to webbie, after a few hours went by i honestly felt like a foolish pathectic butt ! But guess what everyone Heather excepted my apology she never reacted like a fool, nor a child Heather handled herself very well, and in return she treated me with respect, she didn't attack me with foolish words, nor did Yoss, or Webbie, I can NOT say nothing mean about the Moderators i have full respect for them, i just don't know how they tolerate our behavior.

Maybe in the guidelines section you should add no profanity.(I mean the actual words not the a$$hat,a$$hole etc.)Most members follow this unwritten rule but, some Ive noticed do not & then get warned by a mod.At least I guess this is a unwritten rule. This is just a suggestion .
