I'm trying to find software that allows you to grab a video still while playing a DVD. These DVD's are homemade and do not contain copyrighted material. Well, at least I own the copyright.
I use Pinnacle or Roxio EZ CD Creator to capture stills from MPEG's and AVI's but neither of these work to capture a still from a DVD movie. I've even tried various combinations of PrtScr with no success.
Any of you videophiles out there have a suggestion?

Cyberlink's Power DVD does screen captures from DVD with just a simple click. Download the trial version and see if that helps you out. I have an older version of Power DVD (4, I think). I'll try to load it up and if that also has the feature, you can have it. It came with one of my computers and I don't use it.

Thanks SMan, I'm going to check it out. It's not for my personal use... it's actually for use at work, so I can get the "company" to buy it, if it works out. The "boss" has been after me for sometime to find a package that will do this.
I appreciate the feedback.

Thanks, Snoop, already tried that one, Pinnacle Studio 8, I grab stills from VCR tapes with that one.. works great, but it won't handle the dvd format files.

I've got a little gizmo called "snappy". I got it a couple years back but you plug it into the parallel port and then plug any video source into it (has rca jacks). Start watching whatever dvd, vhs, avi file etc. and just click a little button and it takes a pic and sends it to the pc. Looks great. I dont know if you can still find it or maybe a newer version.
Maker: Play Incorporated

Thanks dirk, i used the Snappy a couple of years ago, had a couple of them as a matter of fact. They worked pretty well. The problem with hooking those things up though is they hook up to the parallel port and I have a crappy copy protection dongle on the parallel port for some crappy software i have to use. Thanks for the suggestion though, i appreciate it.

So I guess I will be hearing from you soon?

Did that computer come from the factory with that software already loaded?

Yes you probably will!
I downloaded the 30 day trial version, we're gonna test it for a week or so, and i'll let you know.
BTW, thank your co-worker for researching this for me... Not! I asked him for some suggestions about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Haven't heard a word...

(p.s. the new guy...
