How many of you have sat at the intersection of Railway Lane and the Mall Rd. forever, while waiting for people to turn left?

How frustrating is that? I always tell myself I should just drive over to the light and sit there instead, but usually forget because I am so used to going that way.

All it would take is a 4 way stop, at least for now. Anyone else feel this way?

Are you talking about there at the Plaza? Where people are trying to get to the ramp to go to the interstate? Or,are you talking about down at Shoney's? Where people from the left do not have to stop and you have to wait for them?

Well that not stopping thing at the mall is a pain sometimres because some people can't read, but I am talking about where you go under the bridge after you turn at Shoney's. Then you want to turn right to go to Sams or such and there are people trying to turn left to say Outback. That is where they need the 4 way stop. It's not always a problem, but weekends def is. I have sat in a line all the way back to the bridge before. Ughhh!

Ok,I understand where you're talking about now. I think alot of that has to do with the fact that the people making the left hogs the whole lane, there by, the people who want to go right can't get by them and have to wait. Also, two honkin huge suv's can't get in the same space as two normal size cars either. rolleyes.gif wink.gif

I'm wondering what the deal is with some people that think that left turn on red is allowed??? The particular intersection where I've seen this happen numerous times is at Winter Street & Washington Avenue. Drivers coming off of Winter at the school and turning left onto Washington seem to get tired of waiting for the light to turn green, so they just go ahead and turn left through the red light! huh.gif

Are they one-way streets? You can turn left on red from one one-way street to another.
Mcgee
It`s oneway going East. Washington st. and Locust st. is another left turn on red.

The timing of the traffic lights in and around H-town was set back in the 1950's and appears to have remained unchanged since then. If there has been any adjustments, the people doing so are intellectually challanged at best.
Naomi
Winter Street is one-way going past the school, then you turn left on Washington AVENUE (not street) to get to 40 going east. The traffic light I'm speaking of is at Washington Avenue and Winter Street. As far as I know, you shouldn't be turning left on red at all, unless there's a sign telling you it's allowed!

The planning board may address the connector issue again. I have lost track of what it is named. (Northwest area)

Since so much development has occurred and more cross traffic needs to be addressed. The connector has been proposed again. Stuff is growing near Maugansville and the Pa., throwing more traffic our way. A new route is needed to facilitate a cross traffic route, to ease the main roads. The connector would also address the outdated tunnel near Salem/ Western Middle School area.

The suggestions are to take some of the land in a current parcel that is waiting to be developed near Haven Cemetary. It wraps around an established condo development and boarders the Boyscout road. It is the wooded area above Haven Cemetary. This area is slated to be developed into a new residential community. It would consist of single family homes, townhomes, and 2 by 2s (condos). It boarders the railroad near Western Middle School.

The increased traffic would have to empty somewhere, maybe onto Rt. 11 by the cemetary. There is also an idea to connect a northwest traffic artery to all this, which would resolve the Salem Railroad tunnel problem. Hense, the renewed commitment to the connector.

Naomi: CityParkDad is correct. MD law allows you to turn left (after a stop) from one one-way street into another one-way street. There should be a sign if it is NOT permitted.

left or right on red

QUOTE
After stopping and yielding to pedestrians and other vehicles, a right turn or left turn from a one-way street to another one-way street, may be made on a red signal, except where prohibited by a sign.
Naomi
I stand corrected. Thanks guys! smile.gif
