Has anyone ever used a Linux boot CD with GParted to resize an XP NTFS partition? I want to increase mine to the full disk size and don't feel like spending the cash for Partition Magic.

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ makes it look easy and foolproof. I have Ghosted the partition and am ready to try it but was hoping someone has used this or another method and could share their experiences.

Thanks,
Brian

You say you used ghost to make a copy of the partition so why dont you just use ghost to resize it? Im not sure what version your using but ghost can resize ntfs volumes.

The only way I've seen that done is to use a Ghost bootable CD with something like a REV drive. Copy the partition to the REV then copy it back and resize the drive at that time. I don't see where my version (9.0) can do that in addition I don't have DVD burner or a REV drive.

After thinking about it for a bit:
I do have a spare 37GB drive maybe I could use the copy drive feature of Ghost and see if the 39GB partition will copy over to it. The only problem is that the spare drive is what I was going to use as my location for th e backup in case something went wrong.

I might just backup to the spare drive and try the GParted boot disk. If it fails I still have my backup I could restore (not sure how I would do that, I'll have to see if my Ghost CD is bootable).

Id hook up the spare drive and ghost your old drive contents to it. Then when thats done use ghost again to burn it back to your original drive. When you get to the portion where it asks you how much drive space to make the partition choose the max amount of space the drive has.

I don't have the patience for Ghost tongue.gif So I crossed my fingers and tried the GParted BootCD and it worked beautifully and only took 1 min! smile.gif
