Gotta love it--I get a letter yesterday handed to me by my son, with "Hey, Ma...some kid came down with this, but they say we don't have to worry."...I look at the letter and it is TB. A SHHS has TB!!!!
Gotta love This! And of course the paper today has a small note about it..oh boy!

My kid would be staying home for the rest of the year. It's only 3 more days why would anyone take that chance? Better yet why would anyone believe what he school told you? you know they are trying to cover their a$$e$

Because he has 3 more finals! And he is an honor student..so I can't do that option! And if you look on the WCBOE website they do not even note that there has been a case...but heck, you kid had better get the chickenpox vaccine!!

The infected case is no longer at the school and the likelihood that anyone else has been infected is extremely low, much less that it's had time for them to become sputum-positive, so there's no logical reason to keep kids home now.
They accurately reported that it's generally not transmitted by casual contact. Only fairly close contacts and family members really need TB tests, so I suspect they're casting an unnecessarily wide net testing 200 kids. But people are freakish when it comes to their kids' safety so I can understand why. They're being intentionally overly cautious. If anything the danger is in causing unnecessary panic. Just do what they tell you to, and don't worry too much about it. If your kid was a close contact and needed to do more you would know.
