Full Version: Verizon Outage

I noticed last night that I had not received one phone call all weekend. No telemarketers, nothing. Had a dial tone but didn't try to get out.

This morning, not even a dial tone. Called verizon and was told by the automated answering voice that they were too busy to take my repair request and referred me to their website.

WTF? If I had dial up service how the heck am I going to get to their website?

Anyhow, checked their website from work and learned my phone number is part of a general failure in their system with an anticipated repair date of Tuesday at 9pm.

Anyone else without phone service?

No, I have Sprint.

But as someone who works from home... I would be POed if that happened.

I don't use Verizon for phone, but I do for DSL. The DSL service was very flaky yesterday afternoon, but seems to have gotten better. Wonder if it is a related problem...

I wonder if water has gotten into some of the underground conduits and messed things up? With all this rain, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. I have Verizon for local service only and it seems ok here on the North End. Use a phone card for LD....that's long distance, not learning disabilities!

I have Verizon for my phone service, and haven't had a problem with it. huh.gif

Must be you, Yoss laugh.gif

Actually there is a problem somewhere between the central office and my house. Apparently I'm not the only one affected. Must be something bad though for it to take several days to fix.

Can I get a receipt for tax purposes?

We have the same problem! when I call my house it rings once then gets all static. where did you find the info at? verizons site?
Yossarian
yeah.. when i tried to report a repair problem on their web site and plugged my phone number in it said it was part of a general outage. BTW, we got phone service back sometime yesterday afternoon.
samy0
I'm still out. Dammit!!!!!
samy0
I'm in the wrong business!
Looks like verizon has to come out to my house because they can't determine whats wrong.
$91 dollars just for the visit. $91 for the first 30 mins. then $46 dollars every 30 mins. after!
If they find its their fault they fix it for free but if its my equipment I get raped

Be prepared to be violated Samy0.

It is very rarely their fault. They will try to find a way to blame you.
Yossarian
Samy, don't you have a phone network interface box on the outside of your house? You can open it up, unplug the phone plug in there, plug your phone in and see if the connection is good to that point. If it isn't then it's their problem. If the problem is wiring inside your house... it might be cheaper to call and electrician.

I have looked for this NID box or whatever the hell it is and cant find it anywhere! all I can find is the wire coming into the house and it goes to a block with 5 posts. 1 is ground and there are 3 wires hooked to each of the bottom 2 posts. I did notice 1 was not connected. when i went to tie that one back in we did hear some static on the line. I'm thinking my cats might have screwed with it but I honestly have no idea

If for some reason I don't have one of those boxes is it my $ to put it in on verizons $?
Yossarian
Sounds like you're in an older home samy where they used the old connection block. If they decide to put a network interface box in for you, they will do it at their expense but they will put it on the outside of the house. But i don't think they will connect it to your interior wiring unless you pay them to do that.

By any chance, you're not paying any type of wiring maintenace fee are you? Check your bill and see if you're being charged about $2 a month for wiring maintenance.... if you are paying that then they eat the cost of the whole repair.
