OK, the speed limit throughout all of Shepherdstown is posted
as 25mph.....I have no problem with that....a little over a year
ago, the wife got pulled over for doing 30 in a 25...no big deal,
right ?? Well, it turns out that when classes at the college are
in session, the speed limit drops to 15mph, and even though it's
only posted on campus, it applies everywhere. My wife had
to pay a $140 fine for being 10+mph over the limit. She didn't
argue it but I would have if I'd have known. Now, we find out
that someone that she used to work with just got a ticket for doing
a blazing 27mph in a 25, and he too was cited for doing 10+
over the limit and was fined the same $140...he even went to
court to try and argue it, to no avail....how can they get away
with this when it's not posted ??? Wouldn't they be required
to post some sort of notices at all the town 'gateways' informing
drivers that between such and such dates, the speed limit is
reduced to 15mph ??? Talk about your speed traps!!!! It's no
wonder all the businesses are leaving...this and something
about a new business tax I read about...what a town !!!

Anyone else hear/know anything more about this ??

Shepherdstown has always been a notorious speed trap, the the meter maids are pretty bad too.

I went to Shepherd for 2 years so I know what you are talking about. Somehow I didn't get a speeding ticket down there for those years. I did know someone who got a ticket for going 19 in a 15 at the college.
