To a person who wrote into Mail Call;

And I quote, " I do not believe the Department of Juvenile Services needs to be involved with the new truancy program with the BOE. From reading the paper, it seem that they have enough problems dealing with the serious crimes these kids are committing, not kids that's aren't going to school. Their attention needs to be on the kids committing the real crimes. I hope it goes back to that."

I would have to agree, Just wondering why the BOE is putting this in the hands of the Dept. of Juvenile Services. When it's totally the BOE's problem. Seem to me that they can't handle the children that do go to school, and they can't handle the children that don't go to school. I'm sure DJS has more, then their fair share of work load. It's a no wonder that children fall though the crack at the DJS. DJS can't only be expected to deal with so much. Why not concentrate more on the children, that are in the most trouble.

Were soon hear, People at DJS, over worked and under paid.

I didn't know this was new. I thought that DJS has always handled the truancy issues in Washington County...at least in recent years.

I'm not positive, but I believe that the local DJS offices handle truancy in other counties in MD also.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on either of these points!

I'm sure you right, but I think they have enough to deal with, all the juvenile criminals.
Can they do a effective job is the question? I'm sure they have a good working staff. But the more work load they have, the more pressure they have. Don't their pay check comes from the government?
