I almost forgot about it, I did manage to catch it from 8-9pm. Pretty interesting. I don't think they give the Candidates enough time though. Still a bit confusing to me. There's about 3 candidates I have in mine right now.

I was in attendance last night and highly recommend that everyone attend at least one forum before and after the Primary election. I do not have all of the dates for all of the forums however, the League of Women Voters of Washington County is putting on another forum on October 18th and 19th at the Kepler Theater 7pm. I would also encourage people to watch the reruns of this forum to get a better understanding of the skill level of these candidates.

I would have to agree with sweet liberty that they do not give enough time nor ask enough questions. However, with 24 candidates you could be there all night. That is why the forum in October should be better; it will be narrowed down to 10 candidates at that point. Due to the fact you are only asked 2 questions with answers of 90 seconds and a 90 second closing it is difficult to get a good feel for each candidate. However, with that said you can get a good feel for the skill level. Other things that are easy to pick up is attitude, showmanship, arrogance, reasonability, sense of humor, personality, education of the issues, ability to learn, emotion (good and bad), and public speaking skills.

I took extensive notes throughout my evening there and left those notes at home. However, I will post MY OPIONION on each candidate and a Grade that I gave them based on MY perception. With that said I would say that the Republican side has a much stronger candidate base than the Democrats do. At this time I will list my top 5 based SOLELY on last night.

1. WIVELL
2. FORREST
3. ALSHIRE
4. NIPPS
5. KERCHEVAL

Two candidates that should not be on stage at all are Daniel Moeller and John Munson. Daniel Moeller came across as a person that should not be out of a mental hospital.

Well don't be confused about Pete Waters! I worked with this person for over 20 years and he is not to be trusted. I guarantee you his own personal self interest and agenda will come first. Someone else will be blamed for his mistakes and any wrong doing would be covered up. If he could get away with these things working for the state what chance do the citizens of this county have?

Vote for anyone but waters!

Hag - I can agree with you on Kercheval and Aleshire, but the others, NFW!

I was there last night also, and I can tell you that Aleshire and Kercheval at least sounded like they knew what they were talking about.

Nipps is lucky that she had Kerch and Wivell on the commissioners or else she would have looked like a complete boob, like Munson.

As far as Wivell goes, I don't like the politics that he plays.

I'll fill you in later as the election goes forward.

Munchkin-

Please note that I mentioned that these were the best 5 presenters last night. Not the 5 best candidates to vote for. Who were your top five on each side from last night presentation, not on past voting records. What did you think of Forrest?

I can't pick 5 from each party.
My picks are:

Alehsire
Kercheval
McClure

That's all I have so far. I need to hear a little more after the primary. I feel assured that these three at least will make the first cut.

I'm sure er, Mr. Aleshire will be happy to see his name on that list.

edited, my apologies.

C'mon KId, everyone knows.

Anyway, I think you did a great job last night. Along with some others you seemed to have your act together.
I was amazed that they gave us 3x5 cards and then didn't ask a question from the audience.
I hope that they at least let the audience ask questions at the next round after the primary.
Good luck.
I liked a few, but alas, I can't say.
Remember, I have to work with whomever gets elected.
I do have my choices though.
Maybe when the primarty is over, I'll be able to give some indication of who.
Politically correct, or not?

Oh come on everyone knows the guy's a professional. Of course he did well. But what do you think of his positions on the issues? Let's be sure we're voting for vote for substance, not just style.

Next one was tonight at 7 on channel 99. I plum forgot about it. I miss the whole thing. Darn.

So we have to pick five out of 24 Candidates. Right?

I think the Candidates, there should only be 12 to run. Make things a little less confusing, at least for me.
I have a few people in mine, But some Candidates act like they didn't know what to say. Maybe they was just a little nervous.

SweetLiberty-

Actually when you go to the polls you have to pick 5 out of 12. During the primary you can only vote for your party.

However, I would like anyones opinion on the top 5 on each side of the table or just the top 5 overall after watching the forum.

I don't think they are nervous just not educated on the issues. Especially Democrats (Kretzer, Moeller, Spinner, Waters, and Weller) and Republicans (Munson, Hewett, Green, and Barr).

I think that Spinner seems like a great guy but not informed I would vote for him though because he does seem like a people person and educated enough to learn.

My top five on both sides were and not necessarily in this order:
Democrats: Aleshire (A), Wedlock B , Hardin (B-), Hedershot (C+), and Brubaker C
Republicans: Wivell (A+), Forrest (A), Kerchaval (A-), and a three way tie for 4th Nipps, Knepper, and McClure (B+).

Not to sound stupid here, But this will be my first time voting in Washington County. So I need to do more research here. I do have a few people in mine. But that's all I can say for now.

Actually... you don't HAVE to vote for any of them, nor do you HAVE to vote for FIVE. You MAY vote for UP TO five. The five highest vote getters will advance to the general election. I intentionally try to keep my list to three least I dilute my own choices.

Whoever said it is right, there are a bunch running that shouldn't be out alone! Unfortunately it is this popularity contest atmosphere (best five outa twelve) that lets the loonies in. The alternative though is some form of qualification. Do you really want to shut out certain citizens from participating in the process? Who would set the rules? Who would be denied? What would you call this new form of government... surely not democracy! rolleyes.gif
