A womans remains found in a damn suitcase! Someone's daughter or mother was stuffed in there. It's going to take awhile for the identity to be announced if all there is , is the body. I guess because we have so much rural areas still, that we've become a dumping ground for this type of thing. This awful.

Where in the article do you see that she was stuffed in a suitcase?

Oh how terrible. Some family has probably been wondering about the woman for ages!! I hope they find out who she was and more importantly, WHO DID IT...

Wow. Good point. Imagine you're fishing and you pull out this suitcase. Would you open it to see what's inside? I probably would because I would hope there was money in it. Then if I opened it and saw body parts, surely I'd...god, I don't know what I'd do. Scream, vomit, faint...I don't know.

I know I'd freak. I think I'd be leary of suitcases that I found for a while. it still makes me uneasy to see shoes along side the road. My daughter's was along the road where she was killed.

I see shoes alongside the road all the time! It does make me wonder. How did they end up there? Just the other day I saw the tiniest pair of dirty, tattered sneaks lying alongside the road.

Do they have any idea how long shes been dead yet? I know they said badly decomposed but until they can venture a guess on how long shes been there its going to be hard getting an ID. I assume they are going through dental records of the missing people already. That might be their best bet unless she was never listed as missing

Woman's death in burned home probed as homicide

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - The death of a woman found Wednesday in a smoke-filled bedroom of a mobile home in Berkeley County is being investigated by West Virginia State Police as a homicide, Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Games-Neely said Thursday.

I am sick every time I read the local news. So depressing.

I think you are still pretty safe if you are not engaging in certain illegal or questionable activities. Not 100% safe for sure, but most murders I recall reading about are usually not against ordinary citizens.

I've been hearing a lot of rumors about gang activity being around here.

I'm thinkin he killed because of drugs. Apparently,he robbed her and killed her and then set the place on fire. Gotta be drugs.

In this case it was her next door neighbor.

I think you're right. He was most likely robbing the place for cash or stuff to pawn for cash when she caught him. Drugs will make people to crazy things, even murder.

Couple charged with running drug lab in W.Va. home

This might be the reason violence is on the rise in WV. These tweakers or meth heads are very violent.

MARTINSBURG — A very specific tip from a member of the public has led state police and county prosecutors to identify a woman whose body was recovered from Back Creek on Aug. 20.

The body has been identified as that of Debra Ann Fielder, 49, of Bunker Hill, West Virginia state police announced Friday afternoon.

“It was some really good police work and information from the public that broke that part of the case for us,” said Berkeley County Prosecutor Pamela Games-Neely.

Fielder was an ex-wife of a local attorney, according to the press release, and was last seen alive in her hometown on Aug. 11.

The remains of her body were discovered near the Tuscarora Bridge by two fishermen. Games-Neely had confirmed recently that she had been stabbed multiple times, which was determined to be the cause of Fielder’s death.

Police have requested that anyone with information in regards to seeing Fielder between Aug. 11 and Aug. 20 contact the West Virginia State Police at 267-0001 or 267-0025.

“We’ve been able to narrow it that far,” Games-Neely said, though the exact date of Fielder’s death remains unknown.

No reports of the woman being missing were filed, Games-Neely said, and no possible suspects were named.

“At this time, the matter is under extreme investigation,” she said. “We’re following lots of leads, and doing the things that law enforcement is supposed to do.”

Forensic artists with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children produced composite sketches of the unidentified woman, shown to be between the ages of 30 and 50, which were released on Aug. 31 to the public.

Soon after, the unreleased tip from a member of the public led officials to Fielder’s identity. A second source was able to confirm where Fielder had been on Aug. 11, Games-Neely said.

Ongoing testing is being completed on the remains in an effort to collect more information.

“There’s lots of stuff going on right now,” Games-Neely said of the case. “It’s one we’re working on feverishly.”

At least she's finally been identified. So sad that she wasn't even reported missing.

I been reading alot about the crimes in WV. Seem that's there's always someone killing somebody, for some reason. There's no reason to kill anyone. Have some people just gone nuts or what.

Hopefully who ever murder Mrs. Fielder, will pay the price with their life. Very sad world we live in.

Indeed it is Sweet. People take no responsibility for their actions. They just expect you to live with their actions and not respond in kind.

I am not judging this poor woman. I am just noting that the world is a cruel, harsh place.

Regardless, I think most people believe self-defense can justify killing another person in some situations. The death penalty has considerable support, if not majority support.

It may be a conflicting ideals. I do believe in self-defense. If someone going to stab you or shot you. You have every right to define your self of course.

Most murders that happen in today world, don't seem to be in anyway a Self Defense act.
It's just plain Murder, pure and simple.

Ex-Husband Arrested and Charged in Suitcase Murder

BERKELEY COUNTY, WV- Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Berkeley County woman found in Back Creek, West Virginia. The suspect is her ex-husband. He is also a local attorney.

The facts surrounding the bizarre murder are finally starting to surface.
Steven Fielder, 57, of Bunker Hill is accused of brutally killing his ex-wife. He appeared in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on Monday where he was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder.

West Virginia State Police allege Fielder stabbed his former wife Debra multiple times before dismembering her body and emptying her remains into two suitcases in Back Creek.

Police said there were three medal weights found inside the two red suitcases. Police are tracing the luggage set and the medal weights to a Wal-Mart in Martinsburg.

In the criminal complaint, police said they have surveillance video from Wal-Mart of Fielder buying the luggage set and weights back on August 14th. Fielder’s attorney said his client is denying any involvement in the crime.

“Obviously it’s a major shock for Mr. Fielder. He can’t believe he's being accused of this. He certainly feels sorry she passed away under these circumstances but he completely maintains his innocence that he didn’t know anything about it,” said Craig Manford, Fielder’s attorney.

He also tells NBC25 Fielder had been working as lawyer handling bankruptcy cases in Berkeley County for the past 15 years but cut down on his work load because of health issues. No bond has been set in this case.

Fielder is being held at the Eastern Regional Jail and a preliminary hearing will be held within the next 10 days.

Oh my, I was so hoping this wasn't the case! I met Mr. Fielder when my parents had to file bk before my Dad went into a nursing home. He was kind of strange, but in an old hippie kind of way. Very kind man. (Well obviously not so much but...)

This is very sad. You have to often wonder what motivates some people to such horrible extremes. Look at the murder/suicide in Martinsburg last weekend. How do you leave you 2 children like that??

I think there is so much more violence in a person than anyone realizes. It just takes that "one little thing" to bring it out I think. This is all so terrible.

Maybe it is the population growth that has made it seem like there is so much of this happening around here now. There must be a percentage of these kinds of bad things that will happen, and then growth explodes, you start hearing about more and more of it. It is jsut too depressing to comtemplate!!! I was just reading about some people who are setting up a fundraiser for those poor kids who have no parents now.

I swear I am going to have to stop reading and watching our local news, its making me too depressed!!!
