Wedding details:
- When: Late-Sept
- Time: Ceremony at 5:30PM, reception following
- Place: Ceremony at church, reception at Country Club

Wedding invitation does not say "black tie." High-quality invitation, but kind of non-traditional (one very thick piece of cream-colored cardstock, dark brown print, decorated with light green vines and leaves). Choice of Chicken Oscar or Prime Rib for reception dinner.

I know that black is traditionally considered inappropriate for weddings, but I also know that fashion rules have changed. After my recent wardrobe purge (LOL), I am down to just a few nice dresses. Do you think this would be appropriate, paired with a brightly colored pashmina?

mstubble
I've worn black to several weddings. I think the important part is that your dressed appropriately, i.e., no shorts and sandles unless you've been told to dress down this much.
Naomi
Oh, that would be perfect PF. I recently went to an evening wedding and a lot of the women wore little black dresses. I think that's a really nice one!
SMan
I don't think you can go wrong with the little black dress. I love looking at women in little black dresses, no matter the occasion. biggrin.gif

I wore a black, pin striped suit last month to a wedding. I went colorful with the shirt and tie/kerchief combo and received good reviews.

I agree, but we should see you in it before passing final judgement. ohmy.gif

I'm so not a fashionista, but I think you could pull this off easily, Peacefrog.

This girl would look good in a paper sack. wink.gif

Very appropriate froggy. and it being an evening event and country club to follow, you can't go wrong with that dress. What accessories were you planning? Other than the pashmina? classic pearls? maybe dangle ear rings/ just wondering. biggrin.gif
Naomi
I must not be a fashionista. I don't even know what a pashmina is. sad.gif

Me either! But here is the def.:
Webster's New Millennium™ Dictionary of English -
Main Entry: pashmina
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: a fine woolen cloth with a soft plush texture similar to cashmere
Etymology: Persian `woolen' from pashm `wool'

I'll probably opt for small dangle silver earrings or hoops... maybe a bracelet (maybe not). Strappy sandle shoes to either match the pashmina, or possibly in a metallic.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the dress.

And maybe, Phluux, if I feel frisky, I'll post pics after the event. wink.gif
