Anyone catch the first episode of Jericho last night? I have been waiting to see this and of course i missed it! can anyone give me a recap? will I be completely lost because i missed the first one?
the5car
You can watch it here:

samy0
the5car> you might have just earned yourself POSTER OF THE WEEK with that brilliant save. Thanks i appreciate it greatly! so did you like it?
Yossarian
I saw it. Basically in the middle of nowhere small Kansas town. People see a mushroom cloud off in the distance, probably Denver. Then all communication goes out, no phone, no radio, no TV, no nothing. Then they learn that Atlanta has been nuked. People panic, school kids on a field trip get lost, school bus has accident, hero performs tracheotomy on child injured in bus accident. Prison bus wrecks, prisoners escape. People fight over gasoline, steal food from grocery store, start of a major panic. Mayor steps in and calms everyone down.

It wasn't bad, critics don't give it too much of a chance. Looks like pretty much formula stuff on what happens after a nuke war.

I liked it.
samy0
I am so there!
the5car
I watched the online version...

How can a town panic that quickly ?

How can a filling station have power while
the rest of the town doesn't ?

I thought the closing scene was spooky,
although how can you not see those birds
lying in the middle of the road before running
over them ?

The deaf girl is HOT !!!

sounds like H-town is the only other place that could happen laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Watched it, liked it, therefore CBS will probably cancel it.

I think they had power when the gas station fighting started.

The black guy is cool - wonder what his story is?

Wonder how much time elapses in a season of this show -- days, weeks, months? I would think less, not more.

BTW -- after hearing Katrina stories you don't think people would panic darn quick after seeing a mushroom cloud and communication goes down? I do.

New Orleans, yes. Bumbtruck, Kansas, no.
Snoopy
So, anyone still following this show?

Do you believe the black guy was just a EMS guy in a big city? Seems awfully knowledgable -- and prepared. Why did he move to Kansas? Why did he have a map and red pins handy? Hmmmmm.... I think he knows much more than he says...

We now know many cities got hammered. By who?

Ideas????

I watched. Yeah that guy knows something. I remember him pinning Philly, chicago, Atlanta, L.A. and then reaching for more pins so it was an all out attack by someone. and what happened to the mayor? I know they found him on the floor but they never went into why. i like it so far
Snoopy
I think the Mayor has a heart condition -- his wife seemed to know.

I do not think it was an all-out attack -- unless by someone smaller than Russia. How many nukes does China have?

Wonder if that guy had some intel and moved his family to the sticks...
samy0
Did thejapanese or chinese bomb us?? why were they picking up TV from japan or china? another interesting episode. I think i am hooked now. The black guy definately knows whats going on and what was he sealing in those drums in his basement? I guess they killed the guy that freaked out in the cave. Good show so far
Snoopy
It looked to me like at least 4-5 AR-15 type semiauto rifles in the one drum. This guy was prepared for something, gas mask and suit, too. Was he just filthy rich and a bit paranoid or something more? I say more. Love it so far.
cfulmor
What time is this show on? I haven't seen it yet, but from reading here it looks interesting.
peacefrog
This totally sounds like my type of show, but the last thing I need is to get involved in yet another TV show, darn it!

Well... maybe I'll watch it once and see what it's about.

Besides, I absolutely love Skeet Ulrich. That man is hott!
Snoopy
I figure Japaneese or Chineese or whoever the satellite TV picked-up did not bomb us or else they would not be broadcasting. If 10 or more nukes hit us we would have retalliated massively and I doubt their TV news guys would be on.

Interesting point -- one pilot said he saw fighter jets in the air. The government was responding quickly. I imagine the tanks the one guy saw were ours as well.

Wonder if the train would run if the car were off the track?

Notice how no one thanked the storekeeper -- acted like they were entitled to the food and stuff. Didn't we read a similar story about Katrina here?

Looking forward to next episode...
the5car
I'm curious as to where all the people on that
large jetliner are....and why would that train
be stopped in what seems like the middle of
nowhere? A single vehicle isn't enough to
disable a 100 ton locomotive, not to mention
the weight of the rest of the train. And what
happened to it's crew ? Lots of unanswered
questions...a very cool show so far.
samy0
Awesome show! quickly replacing Lost as my favorite show. the planes were kinda spooky. where did those people go? what happened to the 2 cons that got shot outside the girls house? when the brother showed up in the storm cellar wouldn't he have mentioned the 2 dead guys outside? and when they got out they werent there?
Snoopy
Locomotive coulda had a crash sensor that cuts power in event of a crash and needs replaced to make it run again, or some critical part coulda been Affected by EMP from the blast.

But as y’all say…interesting questions. The writers learned from Lost how to give tidbits to make one wonder.
People on the planes probably headed for some town or shelter in another direction.
Tony Campello
I really am getting into this show. I am glad I have a DVR so I don't miss it.
Snoopy
So as we expected Hawkins has secrets. Did the gov't. anticipate an attack and send G-men undercover to various places to help in the background and maintain gov't. presence? Other ideas?

Leadership seems to have gone. I was irritated that they didn't try to use the bar's generator to power the gas pumps and get some gas ready before the need. Geez! And no one seems to be acting as a sentry or lookout, and no one seems to care to be armed now, even the lead character. blink.gif
samy0
I'm with you Snoopy. I'd be strapped to the hilt! Hawkins is in on whats going on but I can't figure if hes a good guy or bad guy. Obviously he knew there were going to be nukes used on his country but how come his family is going along with this? The metal tank full of gas was pretty funny too. what idiot is going to start beating on it with a screwdriver? KA-BOOM!! I am loving it so far though
samy0
awesome show last night. That hawkins guys computer cam up with Russian looking writing and then at the end were those missle be launched by us?
Snoopy
Here is my guess: The Russian writing was misdirection to make you think Hawkins is a bad guy -- a Russian operative. But I think he was in some way behind the missles being launched. Maybe he saw what internet sites in Russia were working and directed a retaliatory strike at those locations with his satellite and computer and secret code (missle launch codes?). I think the missles were ours and some unfortunate place on the globe is gonna be sorry in about 30 minutes.

Is our hero (what's his name -- the prodigal son?) really got a bad history or is that misdirection as well. Hawkins saw him on a restricted passport list.

I gotta start taping this so I can go back and look...
Snoopy
So Samy0,

What do you think? Were our missles launched in a use-or-lose move because they saw more incoming nukes - including the hi-altitude EMP nuke? Or was it already planned by what was left of the gov't.?

HAwkins acted shocked to see them, and what did he mean my "our targets or theirs"? His groups' ideas for targets vs. someone elses -- or maybe vs. pre-planned targets?

Previews said D.C. was gone.

A second wave is bad news, and the EMP nuke means it was not just pre-planted ground based bombs that hit us. Wonder if it was a rogue Russina sub?
Snoopy
I hear CBS cancelled this show. I liked it. Wonder what garbage they will replace it with ?

ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!!! If they can find valuable airspace for a sitcom about the F'ing geico cavemen (ABC) you cant tell me this show couldnt have found a home. i already signed a petition to move the show to the sci-fi channel
Biggins
You guys liked this show? I watched the first episode and parts of others, and I never really got hooked.

The only network shows I seem to try to watch anymore (on the unlikely chance I'm home) are:
FOX: 24 (but going downhill fast), House
CBS: Miami CSI, Criminal Minds
NBC: The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock
Yossarian
I liked the show, and when I couldn't watch it, I taped it for viewing later. My only problem with the show, was there were too many soap operaish things going on. The last three episodes were really getting good. Last I heard, They hadn't cancelled it so much as they haven't renewed it; might be a difference. It would go well on the scifi channel, or maybe even FX. This reminded me of a book I read in High School, the title of which escapes me right now. But the plot was similiar to Jericho, but they just didn't take it far enough.

It would be a shame for them not to make any more episodes and even more of a shame to replace it with some mindless drivel.

I read the same thing. I have the last four episodes saved on my Tivo, but can't decide whether it's worth the time to watch it. Did the last few eps resolve anything or was it a "cliffhanger"? If nothing really gets resolved, I'm not investing anymore time in it and will delete the eps to save space.

It wasn't the greatest thing on tv, but after the long break over Dec/Jan, the writers seemed to have tuned the show to be less soap opera and "Super Jake saves the day!" crap and more action. And it was infinitely better than adding some new reality show. :barf:
Yossarian
The last four episodes (if you're interested in the show at all) are excellent. Well, the last three at least, I can't remember the 4th from the end. It does end with a cliff hanger but it resolves who actually wrote the blueprints for the attack. I won't spoil it, but it is surprising.
SMan
Dammit, Yoss. I guess I have to watch it now.
the5car
THe missus had a class at Shepherd every Wednesday night, and
I was stuck with the 2-year old watching 'The GoodNight Show'
on Sprout, so I've missed probably the last 6-7 weeks of the show.
I hope CBS keeps the full versions online on Innertube, although
it's a shame now knowing that the show got canned....
Snoopy
I get to liking a show and 50% of the time it gets cancelled!

I yelled at the TV a few times during Jericho because I thought a few things were nutty, but I watched it every week.

WEBSITE IS WWW.WHODROPPEDTHEBOMB.COM
Tony Campello
They did cancel it. B@stards. They are replacing it with a reality show about 40 kids being placed in a New Mexico town and excpected to "survive." They say it is supposed to be a real life Lord of the Flies. There is a big move on to save the show. People are writing CBS and calling it is starting to make a difference apparently. CBS has gone from saying sorry about your luck to talking about a movie but most of the fans want a full season and I agree. Here is the info on how you can help save Jericho if interested. Write or call. I read somewhere that they project one call or letter as the opinion of 10,000 people. I could be off on that number it has been a couple years since I heard the stat.

The televison shows always cancel, when the ratings are real low. Televison station are out to make money, they don't care about the little people that watch them. It's all about the ratings and how much money their making. It always has been.

Since I don't watch T.V. much, what kind of show is this? Just wondering
Yossarian
Several U.S. cities have been targeted with nuclear bombs. Jericho has been spared. The U.S. has been split up into several different areas with different presidents/dictators. The trials and tribulations facing the survivors.

Actually the ratings weren't real bad they averaged 8 million viewers. Which is better than anything else they had on in that slot did. It was getting much higher ratings and they took it off for a couple of months and did not promote it when it came back and also it was going against American Idol for the time slot. What did the idiots expect.

Fans Make CBS Reconsider 'Jericho' Axing

By LYNN ELBER
AP Television Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Fans trumpeting the cause of CBS' canceled drama "Jericho" have caught the network's ear. CBS, deluged with calls, messages and shipments of nuts signifying viewer displeasure, is reconsidering its decision, a source close to the production said Tuesday.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly. A decision on whether to bring the show back, probably for a midseason run, is imminent, the source said.

"We are tired of the networks (not just CBS) tossing aside quality programming," was the message carried by jericholives.com, one of several web sites protesting the cancellation. "Enough! We're going to fight for this one."

Clarke Ingram, a "Jericho" fan from Pittsburgh, Pa., and a spokesman for jericholives, said he was optimistic that CBS would find a way to revive the drama about a Kansas town isolated by a nuclear terrorist attack.

"People would paint this as teenagers in tinfoil hats" rallying behind the show, said Ingram, 50, an operations manager for two radio stations. "That's not what this is. These are educated professionals."

The show's daring premise, its writing and acting make the case for its survival, he said.

Several factors could work in the show's favor: It appeals to the young adult viewers sought by advertisers and was one of CBS' most popular shows streamed online, indicating an audience beyond that measured by traditional ratings.

CBS may also be considering the dent a long hiatus put in the show's viewership, the same scheduling misstep that hurt ABC's "Lost" and NBC's "Heroes."

The network apparently has been impressed by the display of viewer passion, which included the delivery of 50,000 pounds of peanuts to its New York offices. In the season finale, a character replies "Nuts!" to a demand that the beleaguered town of Jericho surrender.

That's the same response that a U.S. general in World War II made to a German demand for surrender at the Battle of the Bulge.

There's already been one positive outcome: CBS is donating the protest peanuts to charities, including one that sends care packages to troops overseas.

Just posted an hour or so ago...

To the Fans of Jericho:

Wow!

Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.

As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of "Jericho" for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more "Jericho," we will need more viewers.

A loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show. But that community needs to grow. It needs to grow on the CBS Television Network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available.

We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.

At this time, I cannot tell you the specific date or time period that "Jericho" will return to our schedule. However, in the interim, we are working on several initiatives to help introduce the show to new audiences. This includes re-broadcasting "Jericho" on CBS this summer, streaming episodes and clips from these episodes across the CBS Audience Network (online), releasing the first season DVD on September 25 and continuing the story of Jericho in the digital world until the new episodes return. We will let you know specifics when we have them so you can pass them on.

On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of "Jericho" in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.

Sincerely,

Nina Tassler
President, CBS Entertainment

P.S. Please stop sending us nuts :-)

I forgot to mention this is the nuts site and though Jericho is saved they are still raising money for Greensburg, Kansas. http://www.nutsonline.com/jericho
