Tirico, Theisman and Kornheiser on MNF are just awful. I just cannot believe that ESPN put these three clowns on TV together for MNF. Seriously, listening to these guys stumble through a game is painful. None of them can stay focused on the game... they're too busy talking about who will start in 2012 or whether the moon is made of cheese. Theisman is a bonehead and says the most ridiculous things (now without McGwire to call him out and make him look foolish). Kornheiser doesn't know football... he was brought in for his sarcasm and subversiveness. Even he will admit that he's not a football guy. They are a perfect match for each other, but not on television! Put them in the circus together. Tirico is just clueless and has no personality at all.

If you haven't really paid attention to them, try it next week. It's just awful. Worst crew EVER.

For all the flak that Madden gets for rambling and drawing on the screen, I really like him because he's one of the most knowledgable, sensible color guys on TV with great insight. He rarely sticks his foot in his mouth or says something totally absurd whereas Theismann and Kornheiser take the liberty to do so regularly. He and Michaels make Sunday Night Football (or shall I say, Football Night in America) the new Monday Night Football.

And last night... WTF was up with Dick Enberg. He needs to lay off the booze before a game or get some glasses. He couldn't get names or numbers right last night. I could have called that game better from my freakin' couch!

Who watches football to hear what the guys in the booth are saying?

It''s just background noise to me, kinda like watching a game at
a bar or restaurant. You can figure out what's going on without
the sound on. And an added bonus: you don't have to listen to
the commercials, either !!

I used to turn down the TV and turn up Sonny, Sam, and Frank for the skins games. Now they replaced frank herzog with the totally obnoxious Larry Michael and now Danny Boy and his 3 new 100 watt stations
can't even pick up a signal out here. THANK GOD for sirius!.....and Santana Moss!

I don't recall saying that people watch football just to listen to what the guys in the booth are saying. rolleyes.gif

I rarely go out to bars to watch games because I prefer to watch them in the comfort of my own home (along with the majority of America). Plus, being around a bunch of drunken idiots hooting and hollaring at each other while I'm trying to watch a game annoys the hell out of me. On top of that, my eyes aren't always glued to the TV if I'm working around the house or on the computer.

There's your answer, thank you for your contribution.

I don't go to bars either. I do go to restaurants
that happen to have football games, or baseball,
or NASCAR, or soccer, or bowling, or what have
you on their TVs, yet I have no problem understanding
what's happening by following the action and noting
the conveneint graphics that tell me what down it is,
what inning it is, what lap they're on, and who's up
by 20 pins. I also go to high school football games,
Hagerstown Suns games, NASCAR Nextel Cup races,
and my nephew's soccer games, and there's no one
there clueing me into what's going on, and there's
no replay video, either. In fact, I prefer it that way.
I don't want nor need anyone's opinion or interpretation
of something that I'm witnessing myself in realtime.

Forutnately, I have an 18 month old boy now that
pretty much prevents me from parking my butt on
the couch all the time to 'watch' TV... smile.gif

And I do agree with your original assessment of the
MNF crew....never cared for JT and Tirico, who just love
to hear themselves, while Tony does his best work with
his keyboard.

I actually thought kornheiser would be even worse than he is. Joey T. is always just going to be a loudmouth. Mike tirico is who I am most disappointed with. he adds nothing and i think they need a better fit with Joe T and Kornheiser. i think al michaels with those 2 might have been interesting

Every year at the end of the season Dr. Z on SI.com grades each of the commentator teams with a good analysis of each. I'm real eager to see what he says about this bunch.

Doesn't Dr. Z look just like Dr. Johnny Fever on WKRP In Cincinnati? rolleyes.gif

I like TK. I watch PTI and have read his column since the 70s. My son also knows his daughter. He has about 10 strands left in that comb-over. laugh.gif

The other 2 are the problem IMO. I would like to see Madden, Kornheiser, and Michaels. MNF will never be the same without Al Michaels, there's never been a better play-caller.

I think TK is great on PTI.. it suits his personality and style perfectly. I just don't think that he's knowledgable enough to be a good color guy for football. Madden is so good because he knows the game, the players, the coaches, and stuff that happens off the field within the NFL and organizations.

I liked Tirico until he began doing MNF. I think he's better suited for the ESPN evening college games. I'd honestly like them to bring in a no name person for play-by-play because what happens in a few years when all of the play-by-play commentators are in their 60s, 70s, 80s and would like to do other things?

I honestly believe Kornheiser has done a great job thus far. I've always been annoyed with Theisman giving his thoughts, so I can't say much has changed for me there.

Joe Buck is another great play-by-play guy. Buck, Aikman and Collinsworth make a pretty darn good team as well, in my opinion.
