That was funny tongue.gif

But I opened this for you, Unique, because you seemed to want to have a discussion about it in the shoutbox. This would be a more appropriate place for a lengthy, intelligent discussion.

Webbie,
I felt my topic was appropriate. What wasn't appropriate was GreedyX turning it into an unintelligent topic due to his/hers nasty choice of words. The rest of us handled it fine!

I feel this topic should be closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanna vote!

I totally missed the topic in general... geez... and I love discussing doggies.

My opinion about breeders:

Yes, they have a place in this world. And I mean *responsible* breeders. People who breed show dogs. Who breed for the love of the breed, not puppy mills. Who breed to maintain integrity within the breed.

But I have no patience for breeders who just try and produce litter after litter so they can sell whatever the "dog of the hour" might be to owners who don't know the first thing about the breed anyway. (This happened to dobies, thanks to Magnum P.I.)

If you want a canine companion, a warm furr-face that will curl up on your lap, get one from a shelter or rescue (there are rescues that specialize in certain breeds). And, damn it, get it spayed/neutered!

If you understand the breed, love it for the qualities that it has, and want a specific animal because you love the breed (not because it was featured in the latest blockbuster movie), then go to a breeder.

That's my two cents.

I agree with Peacefrog.

Breeding should better the breed of dog not make it worse. There are a lot of dogs that are being overbred and inbred. Don't get me started on the "designer" dogs such as the labradoos or whatever they are called. They are MUTTS.

When I saw the thread name, I thought it was about people reproducing too much! Darn, I was hoping for a chance to bash on them. Oh, well.
