Since it seems like a ton of new shows come out in the fall, are there any good new shows this year? I've been wanting to see Cold Case Files on CBS since detective shows are my all time favorite, but I always seem to miss it.

In all honesty, this has to be the most boring list of shows ever offered for the new fall season. Really, i'm not looking forward to 12 shows that ripped off an original(all the CSI like shows). I find it funny that these writers dont have any original ideals anymore, all the shows seem to follow the same pattern of "what worked on another station, will work here too".
Short list of what is destine to fail this year. I'm with her (ABC), George Lopez(ABC), It's all relative(ABC), Coupling (NBC), 2 1/2 men (CBS Major flop!), and that awful looking Joey Pants show The Handler (CBS)..
By far NBC and CBS has the best line up this year VS ABC.

Well, I saw Cold Case Files, and I actually liked it, even though some of my coworkers said it was too unrealistic. The case last night kind of reminded me of the Martha Moxley case in Greenwich, Conn. Anybody else see this?
I also seem to think that NBC and CBS once again come out on top of ABC, although my wife never misses an episode of Life With Bonnie, which I don't particularly like. According to Jim, however, isn't that bad.

Woopi is pretty funny.Tues.on NBC.
I like Life with Bonnie too ,but I always seem to miss it!
I haven't seen anything else that peeked my curiosity enough to want to watch.
Good ole SciFi channel to the rescue.Stargate SG1 on Fri.
BBC America.
TV Land.
With all the channels available to people you would think that the networks would make some kind of effort to have better shows than all the clones.

Joan of Arcadia - I watched five minutes of it, and that's all I ever will.
It's clearly a vehicle for Islamists. Right up front, the actor playing God introduces himself as the same guy that the Jews, Christians, and Muslims worship. Sorry - but one doesn't have to look very deep to see that the "Allah" of Islam bears little resemblance to God. Just about the only folks I have ever heard equating the two are Muslims seeking converts.

I forgot to add that show to my flop list! Thanks BMIC
I always can tell by the way they hype up a show, before its debut, that it will be a total flop. GOOD SHOWS NEED NO HYPE!

Don't watch The Lyons Den on NBC either! I thought it would be a good political show, but I found it to be very boring.

I haven't seen any great new shows that appeal to me yet on the major networks. Though Fox is holding back until after the World Series and they have a few promising shows that I may like. I am always a fan of Fox comedies.

I am not watching as much TV as I used to so I haven't had as much time to check out the new shows. I guess that what happens when you have an amazing girlfriend you spend all your time with, heck I don't even get to post on here as much anymore!!!

The old fave: NYPD Blue is as good as ever.
Reno 911 on Comedy Channel is hilarious.
The new Survivor is great.
And for new show pick ya gotta watch The Brotherhood of Poland New Hampshire, Wednesday at 10pm. Kinda soap operaish, kinda Twin Peakish. Definitely adult, and definitely well written and acted.

Uggh, I hate those stupid "reality" shows. (like Survivor). I just don't see the draw on spying on people's daily lives in stupid situations.

Me neither. But then I do not watch Jerry Springer either...or those stupid court tv shows...and I never watched survival of the most crafty.. I watch the history channel, a&e, and old reruns of Law & order...

I forgot those two-the food channel--has some hysterical shows on it...and the travel channel has some surprisingly well written shows...
Yes, I freely admit to being a TV Snob...So apparantly are you...
I have tried to watch the man-hater channel, but I cannot stomach the endings of their "movies"...they are always so open-ended and stupid...I always end up wanting to beat the women...

I guess this is where I end up with my first post adding my two cents to the board. I agree with WVU, the reality shows have to go. I'm looking forward to Jeff Corwin's new show "King of the Jungle", where 12 animal experts compete for their own show on animal planet. That guy cracks me up, better than the croc hunter. Other than that I'm usually on history channel, tv land, or an old movie channel. Which I guess would be TCM since AMC went more towards the 70's and early 80's movies. Other than that Discovery or Travel. Who watches NBC CBS or ABC anymore? Its easier to switch to the Weather Channel and get the latest on the 8's than waiting until 11:00 to see Lou.

Actually H, I watch the "big three" all the time. I like the local news, NBC's news, and since we have satilite I don't get the local version of the weather channel. I do watch a lot of History Channel, and CMT to hear the Top-Twenty Country Countdown.

If anyone gets the premium cable channels (Showtime, HBO), I highly recommend two new shows: Dead Like Me (Showtime) and Carnivale (HBO). Anyone see these?
Romulus
Oct 13 2003, 05:52 PM
Actually Melanie I had a topic up just for the HBO original series. I gave Carnivale a bad review, but after watching it more and paying closer attention to it, I have to say I am hooked. I look forward to every episode now, very interesting show.

I have seen several articles on the internet saying about how bad the new falls shows are on the broadcast networks and how low the ratings are. The TV executives even admit that their new shows stink. Numerous new shows have been canceled or shelved already and the season has just started. They blame some of the poor ratings on people watching DVD's at home, playing video games, and being on the computer posting to the Herald Mail Forums!!!

Woo-hoo, we are shaping culture!
Has anyone been following 24? I don't think it is as good as it has been the last 2 seasons. We'll have to wait and see how the next 22 episodes play out!

The Fox show "Blow" is gone!! Only 3 episodes and Whammo!!!
Also ( Like I predicted ) Coupling got the boot !
I'm just waiting for some of these other awful shows to get the axe. Oh and I'm glad CBS cancelled the "Reagans" . Why? Well I wouldn't have really cared if they aired the show under the pretense that it was a fictional portrail, but they just cant dish out some garbage like that and present it a FACTUAL!
Ones to be cancelled shortly ....

I don't have cable, so I get two channels: MPT and NBC25. I refuse to pay for cable when there is hardly ever anything good on. I used to find myself in a trance just flipping through channels on the remote, never settling on anything. I hate Fear Factor. I don't see where fear is involved at all when you have safety nets, cables, and gear readily available. Eating disgusting things is just gross. I don't see where fear is involved there either. Maybe it should be the Gross Out Factor. I do enjoy Thursday nights on NBC25. Will and Grace is my favorite show but sometimes they play off of the idea that anything gay is funny, when it's surely not. Scrubs is pretty hilarious. I don't work in the medical profession, but some of it reminds of this cubicle farm I work in. I guess Friends is ok too, but I don't know the history of the past seasons, so sometimes I don't get it. The cooking shows are fun to watch on MPT, (not that I actually cook). Julia Childs is looking kinda rough these days though. Maybe this sounds lame, but I miss Cheers and Moonlighting. Weird, huh?

Loved Moonlighting! Cheers the first few years was good--later it got dumb. They 86'd Skin too--sounds like it was the pits..
You'd probably enjoy the I like the 80's on VH1. They are pretty funny...but most stuff--even on cable is not really very entertaining..the other night I found myself watching Bewitched...HELP...

Yes! I love the 80's! I've seen those shows on VH1. It brought up stuff I hadn't thought about in a decade! I have an insatiable urge to pull on my leg warmers and go play Frogger now!

Hey! I watched two episodes of Leave it to Beaver the other night!
Speaking of Leave it to Beaver, most folks don't know that that show was on the cutting edge of testing censorship.
The sexual innuendo on that show was way ahead of its time. The first actual testing of censorship was with the scene with Ward and June sitting at the breakfast table. June is obviously a little uncomfortable and isn't saying much to her husband. Ward, of course, asks June what is the matter and June says to Ward:
"Ward, you were a little rough on the Beaver last night."

That seems to be my luck when it comes to new shows on TV. Just over the summer Fox premierd Keen Eddie, and I really liked it but I guess nobody else did so it was cancelled. Although I think Cold Case might have a chance since it comes on on Sunday night when there really isn't anything else on.

I've been enjoying "Arrested Developement" on Fox Sunday nights. It has a lot of dry, smart @ss humor, which really strike me as funny. Each of the 3 or 4 episodes had at least a couple of laugh out loud moments for me.
