It all started a couple months ago. I started to get dropped on and off a couple days a week, so I let that go on for a couple weeks to see if it would get worse but it didn't. Then I started to notice lines on my tv. at the same time I was having problems with the internet.
I called tech support they tried to tell me it was my modem because they didn't notice many drops so they told me to call back if I had more trouble.
Four hours later I called back, they said the same thing, but this time I let them know I wasn't to happy and they needed to send someone out.
First guy comes out and replaces all the connections and takes me off a splitter at the pole, three days later the same sh!t happens so I call again.
Second guy comes out looks at things and said they would run a new line.
Third guy comes out looks at things and said they would run a new line.
Fourth guy runs a new line.
Two days later same sh!t, but this is about the time they did the upgrade so the phone lines were jammed.
Now there are no lines on the tv. but the internet is real slow. I've had enough I can get DSL so I figured I might as well try it, if the speeds are good I'll cancel myactv and save about six bucks a month.
If the lines come back I guess I'll start looking at satellite for my television.

Oh man, that sux. I was having trouble with my modem a couple months ago. It would drop the connection for no apparent reason. I'd power cycle the modem and it would be good for a day or two or three. Then it would drop again. Power cycle fixed it. I called tech support and they suggested that perhaps the ethernet port on the modem was going bad. They recommended a new modem. I went to Circuit City, got a new modem, installed it and the service has been flawless since.
Sounds like somewhere down the line you have a split cable. Any neighbors experiencing the same problem? How old is your modem? If it's old, they have a software fix you can do to your computer to adjust the mtu's, if you don't want to shell out for a new modem.
What flavor of DSL can you get? Just remember 768K (if that's what you're getting) is about half the speed of cable.

If the 3MB DSL would have been available at my house, I would have tried it and probably switched. To be fair, myactv has been good to me all these years, but they need to get on the ball and raise their standard D/L speeds (without raising the prices through the roof).

I would have bought a new modem if I wasn't seeing the lines on the tv. Now I have to ask myself do I spend $50 for a new modem that (might) fix the problem or do I switch to DSL and save about $70 a year.
I ordered the 3mb service Ive got 30 days to cancel if I don't like it. I'll give it a try and check my speeds, with MYACTV I was getting around 1500 so if the DSL gets at least that I'll be happy.
I agree SMan, Antietam has been great until now, but for the money they charge I would think they could do a little better with their speeds.

I bought my last cable modem at Circuit City. I think it was one of the Motorola Surfboards. They have a good return policy if that ends up not being your problem. The worst part of the deal will be actually going to CC this week. What a nightmare that shopping center is right now.
Good luck.

3mb DSL is cheaper than myactv cable? dang!
I'm not sure I'm close enough to the central office to get the 3mb version.
Make sure you get enough filters for all of your phones. If you're not familiar, you need filters on your phones in order to use them, since the DSL comes across the same lines.
If you don't mind, please give us an update after you've used DSL for awhile. And let us know how tech support is with verizon. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it (I know I would appreciate it).

DSL+Satellite is cheaper (and faster) than MYACTV+Cable. If Verizon offered DSL in more areas (they will blanket the area soon enough) Antietam would be in serious trouble with their high prices and limited bandwidth.

3MB DSL ROCKS!
I got at least 4 filters, and I believe they will include more if you ask.
Service is rock solid.

Well, as you all know, I don't know what I'm talking about. So, this is just some ideas from somebody else who thinks if you switch from Antietam Cable that you will not be happy.
Why not? Well, my source says that 3MB DSL functions off of 40 yr old copper network called MABell. So you have a lot of corrosion on the copper equipment (?).
Also, (I think this comment has to do with Verizon)..... If you have problems with any wiring in the house, you are liable. You pay. And if there is a problem on the wiring outside, it could be up to a month before they get there. Have to be on a waiting list. Antietam Cable covers all wiring costs.
Also, DSL is just cheaper for the first three months, then it goes up to $50 per month as compare to the same at Antietam for $39 per month. Hope I got that all right!
Just my two cents (lent to me by someone else)!

I wouldn't care if their infrastructure was a network of cans connected with strings.

I need more speed for online fraggin'! My house is relatively new and all I need is one good line to get me to the modem/wireless router and I'm set, so I'm not too concerned about wiring problems.

I've paid $29 per months for 3MB for 2 years now (no price hikes yet).
Verizon PricingI have never had a problem with inside phone wires so I can't speak to that. But when is the last time anyone had problems with inside wiring?

DSL is on so far so good, speeds at C-net 1600 to 1800 which is better than the 1500 with MYACTV.
Now I need to give it a week or two just to make sure the connection is stable then I can tell Antietam to kiss off.

I just found a speed test on myactv's website. It probably goes from pc to their servers. So the vagaries of the internet don't affect it.

My verizon DSL went down today for the first time in 2 years. I quick phone call to Tech support (and talked to a real person in less than 1 min) and within the hour, service was restored.
It was down for about 2 hours total (and for about 45 min after I called). Props to Verizon!!!

Speed is still good as well: 2871 kb/s 688 kb/s

It felt good telling them to shove though didnt it? I'd do the same thing if I wasnt putting this place on the market in a couple months. Comcast in southern md isn't much better srvice, but it is must faster downloads.
I'm watching ND LSU.

WOW! I even got a courtesy call today from Verizon letting me know the problem was fixed and to call them if I had any further problems!
