School Accuses 5 year old of Sexual HarassmentCan you believe this? A 5-yr old is accused of sexual harassment for pinching another child. However, when the girls in middle school are having thier pants pulled down--yes, in the hallway--nothing is done--there are no harassment charges filed...

article:
QUOTE
During the 2005-06 school year, 28 kindergarten students in Maryland were suspended for sex offenses, including sexual assault, sexual harassment and sexual activity, according to state data. Fifteen of those suspensions were for sexual harassment.
During the 2005-06 school year, one Washington County prekindergarten student was suspended from school, and 12 of the county's kindergartners were suspended for various offenses, according to state data.

I realize that the school board did not come out and say that the boy committed a crime but they have definitely insinuated it but labeling this B.S. as Sexual Harassment. What ever happened to "INTENT" and knowing what you are doing is wrong, which surely this poor little boy did not. I also realize that the Brains of the school board stated that this would not follow him to Middle school. I believe that is B. S. as well this little guy has already been labeled a PERVERT for life. I feel for the kid and this is coming from a person that hates children.

Had a similar experience when my oldest was in Middle School. He called a girl (friend of his) a b!tch after she called him a faggot.
He was writen up for Sexual Harassment but nobody heard the girl say anything. I was in the VP's office and noticed that they labled it SH and had not informed me of it. I asked why they would think that this was SH and the VP stated that it just was. We couldn't have students talking to each other that way.
My only gripe was the SH part. I handled the b!tch statement my own way.
I informed the VP that if that part was not taken out of his record I would go to Juvenile Justice and file my own complaint against the girl for SH to my son.
She asked why I would do that, my response was Why Not?
The SH was dropped, and like I said, I handled the other part at home.
They are trying to make KIDS adults before their time.
Granted, people should know how to talk to each other, especially in ear shot of others, but this was ludicrous.
This is worse than ludicrous. Good thing that we didn't have all these watchdogs around when we were in school ( I mean some of us old farts).

Who was it that saw this, and made an issue out of?? After all these are young ones who have no ideas about sexual conduct. I believe it was probably some old bitty who was mad that the little girl got pinched on the *ss and not her!!! The public school system continues to become more and more of a joke!!!! But then again look at the leadership!!!

SO, think about it, maybe we need to question just what young kids are learning in public schools!!! After all, how many teachers, nationwide, have we read about, and seen on the news, for inappropriate behaviors with CHILDREN????
...And how about all of the ones who weren't reported???? Most All of us can think back to school years and remember NAUGHTY Teachers!!!

Sorry, I messed up the above quote from Slim Bob, but I do find all of this shocking, to say the least! And what about all the ones that we haven't heard about? I think if my kids weren't already out of school, I'd be homeschooling them! This is out of control!
These poor little kids that are being labeled before they even know what "sexual harassment" means! I'm sure we all remember pinching, pulling hair, flicking each other in grade school; it's all a part of growing up.

I would also like to note, that are administrators in these schools, who need to wake up. At one school. there is one who believes that a certain babysitter was the ultimate in childcare. Nevermind that when she left her home, every day, while watching these toddlers and infants, which included his, without taking any of them with her, and there was no other adult or grown child present. Then to look in the windows of her home and, see how filthy, I mean trash all over the place (including dog crap on the floors) filthy, they lived, and find it appalling that others would allow her to care for their children, then speak highly of her, go figure. We lived several houses away from her then, last year, and are glad to be gone from that area, where our kids do not attend that administrator's school. That atmosphere was too much of a disgrace for us being several houses away, that we had enough and moved away, so our children did not have to grow up around such activity; Hopefully the other neighbors closer did so too!! We watched unbelievable incidents at that house, including the repeated vandalism of a neighbors property while these children were being "cared for", and the abuse of these children by her older child, like shooting at that administrators child, and others, with paint ball guns, by the older child of the baby sitter. Or, the older child having sex in the pool with other kids in the yard, not to mention people in the neighborhood, including families next door on both sides with young children. And from what we understand, when neighbors tried to tell that administrator, as well as some other parents, about the goings on at that house, they didn't want to hear it, and defended the so-called baby sitter to the hilt. Think about it people, that might be where you take your kids and drop them off. That may also be the administrator who is looking out for your childrens' best interests!!!

Wow! I thought I was the only one who had problems with the BOE policies! A few years ago, one of my kids was in elementary school when this boy kept trying to kiss & hug her in the hallway..finally she hit 'when' and wrote a note telling him to leave her alone...in not nice terms. (The teacher had not acted when my daughter said he was bothering her..)
The school tried to suspend her and so I had to go in and tell them why she was spewing 'hate speech' at this boy...that he was not an 'innocent'...turned out the other students and the TA's even knew of this boys behavior toward my daughter...and did nothing...because he was 'special'...that is when I was fed up & explained that his behavior toward my daughter constituted SH in anyplace I ever heard of...and guess what? The school got him out of her class and told him to back off...but my daughter was still punished...but not suspended...

Yes the whole world is laughing at our little backwards County over this one. I won't even tell you people where I ran across the story that brought me back here. I NEVER read the Herald-Mail website, forums or newspaper anymore, but this is international news!
IMO it's Mower and the entire Wash Co Shool system that are the criminals here. Were I the father in this case, I would sue the pants off of them (LOL). Since they are a Local Governemnt agency, the State's Attorney and/or FBI should be called in. A 5 year old boy CANNOT engage in sexual harrassment as defined by the rules they quoted. He isn't CAPABLE of doing ANYTHING of a "sexual" nature since he is not old enough to behave in any "sexual" manner - he ain't got the hormones necessary to allow him of being "sxual"
Unfortunately this is very typical of the kind of total horse excrement that our local public schoool system does EVERY SINGLE DAY. My own personal experiences with regard to my daughter have me infuriated with the whole gang of incompetent SOBs. IMO we need to run the whole gang out of town and replace the lot of them. But I'm not sure we'd get any better replacements. After all, they're both Government Employees and Union Employees. They really don't care what we, the people who pay their salaries, think.

Sometimes there are simpler and easier ways to address problems, and still make your point without overkill.
The story has hit many national papers. It is underscoring govt gone mad. Here in Wash County, kids show up at some schools not being able to read adequately by middle school. Some classes are lack luster due to some kids engaging in interfering behavior or coming to class in an altered state. But these issues are overlooked. Granted, some may think certain behavioral concerns are not the school's mandated area of focus. But a lot can be done when minor problems are addressed early. Some small problems fester and get bigger, creating problems that could of been handled earlier. This poor management is seen when you hear of administrators writing up five year olds without trying a little common sense first. Instead there is overkill. Wash County is writing up five year olds, putting harsh language into a five year olds permanent school records. You can address problems without overkill.
This approach alienates some good parents. Some good kids are overlooked or mishandled. A less reactionary approach goes a long way. The article is highlighting how many American schools are misidentifying problems and then mishandling the follow-up, making it a bigger mess. They are ill prepared to follow up adequately because they have mislabeled the interfering behavior/issue. There is a trend to over react at some hot buzzer issues, while ignoring some other critical issues. Many Public Schools have been written about lately for getting caught up in legalese language, and missing the real issues. Since when is it professional or skilled to talk to a five year old like they are 35 years old.
(Some school staff fall into a rut and forget what they learned in basic educational psych classes. During some meetings at schools, I have felt some staff have been to law school and encouraged to abandon common sense and their intial education training. There is a time and place for legal-styled feedback/write-ups. It is not necessary to speak like a lawyer when a parent or student asks a question or presents a problem, it clouds/ escalates the issue.)
