Anyone been there yet? (In Fountainhead Plaza)
Rumor has it that the place is owned by a couple, and the women is a vegetarian. There are a few veg items on the menu, so I wondered if the food was any good. Might try and con my friends into going there soon.

I went for lunch right before Christmas. I had the pork sandwich and some of the *spicy* sweet potato fries.
The serving staff was a little overwhelmed by how busy it was, but the food was good.

I have been there a few times. The food and service is great. Prices not bad. I would agree on the *spicy* sweet potato fries. Also the crab chips are outstanding. I am not a big fan of the ribs though. Keep me in mind if you have a forum meet up maybe I could actually do it this time, as long as no one is giving out free booze.

The best BBQ IS THAT GUY ON HALFWAY BLVD. his ribs are great. Hempen hill is a bottle and can restaurant, it all comes out of a bottle or can.

I guess I don't have very discerning tastes because Hempen Hill didn't seem like a bottle and can joint.

Yeah... but that doesn't help me much. I'm looking for a place that suits me AND my meat-eating friends.
Ok... as soon as Heather's cold clears up, we'll plan a meet and greet.

Count me out! You'll not trick me into eating at a head shop with a bunch of pot heads! You guys are not fooling me.

You know... an event bringing all the posters here might be interesting. But then again given the passionate debate in here it could wind up being held in the county jail. LOL

I'll be brave and make my way through the smoke. Have a sit on a cushion on the floor, it'll remind me of high school!

....As long as is doesn't cost $75.00 at the door...I'm broke til my tax refund comes in

Ok... Official Review:
DH and I ate there last night. He ordered the Smoked Turkey club sandwich with kettle chips. I had the Smoked Tofu with whole grain spaghetti. We shared the Happy Hummus appetizer.
(BTW, the place is named for Hempen Hill brewery, and they sell a decent # of beers on tap.)
The hummus appetizer was just ok. I thought the hummus was on the bitter side, but DH liked it. It came with deep fried pita points, which I found odd (and not great for my diet, either).
DH was disturbed that his club had no mayo, although it specified mayo on the menu. Also, the kettle chips were the same as the kind sold at Cafe Del Sol, so nothing new for us. (When is a restaurant in town going to serve those spiral-sliced fried potatoes that they sell at carnivals? YUM!)
I didn't particularly like my Smoked Tofu pasta dish... the flavors did nothing for me, and the broccoli was a bit under-done. The garden salad and homemade balsamic dressing, however, was delish.
We'll definitely try it again--one mediocre meal isn't enough to turn us away forever. (Two mediocre meals, however, will cause us to think twice about eating there.)
Good points: The service was excellent, the decor/atmosphere is relaxing and appropriate, and the menu variety is nice. There were quite a few dishes that could suit my vegan diet. Prices were reasonable.

Yes there will be. See a mod in the parking lot afterwards for your gift bag.

De Ja Vu thread
Hempen Hill BBQ, I like it for what it is, no pretenses and a nice place. The second visit was better. We encountered good food, good service, fair price, and a nice location. The atmosphere was nice when we were there. The story how they got there was interesting, nice alternate from a chain. Never encountered some of what was mentioned, seemed ok for us. A lot depends on what nite I guess. Will keep it on the list as one of a few possibilities. I am happy they are successful. They are doing a good marketing job and have what they advertise.
Looking down at Bart, I agree. I love the crab chips.
