I personally think it's a good idea because the racetrack has brought tons of jobs, and tourist not only to Charles Town but also to Martinsburg and the surrounding area. Just look at all the restaurants/businesses that are now in Charles Town that weren't there 3 years ago.

Are you talking about the actual expansion of the race track,
or are they bringing more slots and casino-type stuff in ??

The proposed track expansion is supposed to make it
easier on the horses...more gradual turns with a slight
banking which takes less of a toll on their legs, etc...

I am against any further expansion of the gaming there.
I don't know where you live, but commuting in the afternoon
and just driving on Route 9 in general west of Charles Town
has become a real chore...there are all sorts of folks from
NoVA that crawl along at 25mph without a clue to where
they're going...I wish the DOH would get on with finishing
the 4-lane expansion of Route 9 to the VA line before
any more 'tourists' catch wind of the hellhole that is now
C-T Races and Slots. mad.gif

I'm talking about the expansion of the actual track, not the slots and other gambling venues. I see where your coming from about Route 9, but I remember reading in the paper a few years ago where they were supposed to be building a freeway-type bypass of Martinsburg for Route 9 similar to the one in Charles Town (US 340).

Yeah, Route 9 is supposed to be 4-laned from the Eastern Regional Jail
all the way to Ranson...there is work going on near Bardane right now...
They started on the Charles Town to Virgina portion over a year ago,
but some stupid treehugging group blocked it...while the powers that
be struggle with this, the commuters suffer, along with the residents
who live along it...

The Martinsburg bypass is just a proposal...but like anything else
in that area, if will probably never happen....it's something that
was needed 5 years ago...

I don't know when I was in Jr. High, 1991 or so, they had talked about expanding King St after Foxcroft to I-81, and rerouteing part of Old Mill Road to California Ave, and look it happened, just took them nine years to start on the project!
