If you or someone you know travels through Williamsport-Clear Spring via Rt. 68 please read and spread the word: I want to make people aware of the need to slow down. I live in a residential area on Rt. 68 at the bottom of a hill with low visibility. The speed limit is 30 mph, not 50-60 mph! I am very concerned for the safety of my family. My address also happens to be a bus stop. My neighbor made the necessary contacts to have a sign put in warning of a bus stop ahead. As expected, it has had no impact on calming the traffic. People are driving so fast they have a hard time stopping for the bus, at times totally disregarding the red lights. I have even witnessed someone cross the double yellow lines to go around the bus (with the red lights on)! We have had some close calls so please drive cautiously and obey the speed limit.

Have you contacted the Sheriff's Department and requested special attention during pick-up times? Might be worth a phone call (though they are usually unresponsive to stuff like this).

I called State Police yesterday. It was suggested I contact the local police and that if they are unresponsive to get back to them. I attempted the call to the local police, got the answering machine. Sent a letter today and plan to follow through with the phone calls. I do fear they will be unresponsive. I don't know if any of my actions will help with the situation, but have to at least try. I have never posted before, but thought it would be another avenue for me to get the word out. Thank you for the suggestion.

You received an answering machine at the Sheriff's Department? What number did you call? 301-791-3020 should get you a dispatcher.

Don't know if it will do any good, but you can file a traffic complaint online with them.

Actually, I called the Williamsport Sheriff's Dept. at 301-223-8230. That is where I sent my letter too. Thanks for the info. I'm going to check out the website now.

That makes sense. I doubt they have somebody working 24/7 in the Williamsport substation. Most times the only way to get service out of local government is to be the proverbial squeaky wheel, so keep at them.

Good luck!

Thanks SMan! I submitted an online form. After a scary incident yesterday, I plan to be very squeaky.
