Full Version: if Prince's thang looks like this....

Prince's acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer's symbol) had phallic connotations for some.

Looks like satan...not that there's anything wrong with that

CPD you need a adult image disclaimer...or would you let your kids look at this thread?

I thought about that while I was watching the performance but didn't care. That was the best halftime show since U2's tribute to 9/11 families.

I don't see anything wrong- there is no way that looks like a dick!

I won't argue with that but just for clarification, and this is in my own humble opinion, no sports show performance ever has even been close to U2's SB - 2002 show.

U2 ugh! BARF...

Take a look at this innocent man. He’s not capable of that kind of naughty behavior.

Phallic symbol? Well yeah. It is. It was only for a mere few seconds to serve as a nod to Prince fans, if you ask me. Back in the day, he’d be stroking it and holding the pose for awhile to make sure you got an eye full. C’mon, it’s Prince we’re talking about here. He’s been putting phallic symbols in his work for decades. Check out the 1999 album cover.. Oh wait, that’s a mushroom. How about the Lovesexy album? Nah, that’s just a well placed flower, right? rolleyes.gif

It isn't really scandalous though. The kids know it’s a guitar and any adult thinking it looks like a penis has a dirty mind and should go listen to more Prince cos it’s right up your alley.

And with that like I'd like post this youtube link of the famous assless pants in hopes that Prince's people contact Webbie to have it taken down. Please ask for an autograph for me. :praying to Jehovah:

Snoop--I remember that movie--it was hysterical--didn't he make the first pair because he was nude and going thru a dumpster?

What gets me is have these people ever heard of Prince? if you have and are familiar with his work you already know he is hardly a mainstream disney type performer. For gods sake he even wrote a song called "controversy" what did they expect? if someone thinks his guitar looks like a big penis that might just be their problem! In this PC world nobody is ever going to please 100% of the people.
And even if he did the show for free (which Im sure he didnt) the publicity alone was worth it. whens the last time people (besides hardcore fans) sat around talking about the relevance of Prince? I just wish he would have tore his shirt off and given them a real show!
txexpatriot
If he tore open his shirt we would have to see his caved in chest...ugh...I always wondered if he was bi from some of his songs...

But you are correct Samy, most people do not know his music. I knew it, just did not like it..and chose not to remember it.. Sorta like George Micheal's music...I remember Wham! and thinking gosh, this dude is a Freddy Mercury--why are all these girls going nutso over him? Then his solo career took off and it was highly obvious what his 'taste' was...and yes, I do not particularly like his genre of music either..and most people do not know most of his songs either, such as "I want your sex"...

You have to give Prince, symbol whatever credit. It got him back in the public domain...
Unbelieveable
I feel Prince is an incredible performer! Prince has his own style with the way he moves, sings, his voice, ect. Anyone can sing The Judds, Tina Turner. But Prince is the BOMB!

As i said " what can i say? He turns me on! "

Someone once accused me of trying to turn this place into a Prince.org sleeper cell. My plan is coming along nicely.

You're killing me here, Tx. biggrin.gif

You speak of Prince in the past tense. You knew his music, chose not to remember it. Prince didn't stop making music in the 80s. I have 25 Prince CDs and I still don't have his entire collection. Check out this discography I grabbed from some site:

You're making comments on back in the day. Which I understand...everyone does it. "I'm a big Prince fan." "Ohhh, I loved Purple Rain." rolleyes.gif

I deleted the "best of" collection CDs in the discography. People don't realize Prince hasn't left "the scene" because most people commenting on him 1) aren't big into music 2) dismiss him as too eccentric to bother with. Fact is, most people are aware of pop music, (popular). Not all of his work is popular and there's a reason for that.

He was signed into a contract with Warner Brothers who dismissed him as a creative artist and merely wanted a money machine to exploit. The corporate money making machine didn't jive with his love of creating music. They wanted to keep him in the mainstream to please the masses but he wanted creative freedom. Hence the "slave" written on his face and hence the name change to the symbol to break his contract. (Yeah, the symbol name is still weird and he could have chosen any other pseudonym including Jamie Starr, Alexander Nevermind, John Smith, etc.)

However, anyone that had an ear for good music or any fan that stayed with Prince would have recognized that even throughout the years where no one else knew his music, he was still making excellent music. He's well known for being a workaholic. (Hence the fleeting relationships with beautiful women. He's not NECESSARILY bisexual, however I do agree his music has heavy connotations of that, but rather it's his anal personality that hinders his relationships. He's a workaholic and damn it, he has high demands on how beautiful you should be ALL OF THE TIME.) When you are Prince's object of desire, you are his muse and the music reflects thusly.

blink.gif I'm not done.

What is this sh!t about Wham?! Completely different genre, capability, god I could afix so many adjectives here. Prince and George Michael share the same realm of music rarely and when they do it's only the dancing, sexy, (see controversial), hits that just happen to collide at the right moment in culture. Fact is, most serious music critics have Prince at the top of any of their lists.

No, McGee, he's not THE GREATEST guitar god ever, but he's damn good at it. He also plays a dozen other instruments too. All of his albums are produced, written, composed and arranged by him. Hence the workaholic, again. And let me tell you, that's rare in this business. In this pop world where most "artists" coo and squeal and then call it day, (I just downloaded Britney I sh!t you not and I'm not hatin).

AND YET! And yet Prince recognizes that he can only create sub-par music for us on his own so he recruits a full legit BAND. He recruits great people at the top of their game to play all those instruments and those people fall over at the chance to work with him. They are touted as the tightest group whenever they play. Workaholic makes damn sure. Chock full of integrity it is, Ashlee Simpson caught in the headlights it aint.

Maybe you haven't heard of newer material because you aren't into jazz, instrumental concept albums, funk or his newest...the religion saturated stuff. I'm not into that kinda stuff either. To be honest, I'm a pop girl. I only hear what's on the radio, which isn't Prince, or what someone convinces me to listen to. I've just been a Prince fan all these years and kept up with what he puts out...whether it's crap or not.

And don't get me started on that. I know Prince put's out crap sometimes. You can put me in rabid fan category, but I'm his worse critic too. A friend of mine actually likes the lyrics, "makin love like surgery." rolleyes.gif God. That's retarded.

I guess I should stop now. Y'all aren't gonna read it anyway. Just can't help but school ya on my sexy little man. tongue.gif And for the record, I stopped wanting to marry Prince when I was nine. No attraction there except for admiration and easy sarcasm. I can easily laugh at him and myself too. wink.gif

I've been ambivalent about Prince for decades, but this recent Super Bowl buzz caused me to grant him the privilege of an "artist alert" (meaning it tells me anytime/channel he's on) on my sat radio for now. All publicity is good publicity in the entertainment world.

I am not a huge fan or hater; I like some of his songs, dislike others. Most importantly, he's an eccentric artist and I respect that. He's different.

FYI, there was news about a Wham! reunion, but I'm not sure what ever came of it.

I heard Prince is being questioned in connection with the sudden death of Anna Nicole Smith. ph34r.gif

Heather you may be one of his biggest fans. But the majority of the populace found he faded after 87...he had one more major hit in 97 or so, right? But he was off the radar for most stations...for one thing, he was a pain to work with...he did not finish his albums on time, he did not show up to things when he was supposed to...can you do that at work and still have a job, let alone a following?

But then again, I don't like the bush bashing triplets either...and they just won mega awards..

Doesn't matter. I think most music people listen to on the radio sucks, yet people continue to listen and buy their CDs. I don't even listen to free radio anymore thanks to Sirius. The majority of the populace, in my opinion, just buys whatever free radio/TV spoonfeeds them and doesn't make any effort to explore other artists or styles of music on their own. The "majority of the populace" can continue to listen to goons like Nickleback, Dixie Chicks, and 50 Cent; I am a little more particular with what I pollute my ears with and it certainly won't be any of that top 40 garbage.
