Who`s going to win the Daytona 500 ??
I think Dale Earnhardt jr. has a good chance. With the back ground of having a fast restrictor plate program. But Tony Stewart will be in the mix.

Penalties Announced: 4 Crew Chiefs Suspended, Fines, Points Taken Away: NASCAR announced Tuesday that four Nextel Cup Series crew chiefs have been suspended from competition, starting with Sunday’s season-opening Daytona 500. Two of the four – Ken Francis, crew chief for the #9 Dodge driven by Kasey Kahne; and Robbie Reiser, crew chief for the #17 Ford of Matt Kenseth – have been suspended for four races and fined $50,000. Also, Kahne and Kenseth were penalized with the loss of 50 driver championship points while their car owners, Ray Evernham and Jack Roush, were penalized 50 car owner championship points. The violations by the #9 and #17 teams were found during post-qualifying inspection on Feb. 11. Both teams’ qualifying times were disallowed. Two others – Rodney Childers, crew chief for the #10 Dodge driven by Scott Riggs; and Josh Browne, crew chief for the #19 Dodge driven by Elliott Sadler – have been suspended for two races and fined $25,000. In addition, Riggs and Sadler were penalized 25 driver championship points while their car owners, James Rocco and Evernham, were penalized 25 car owner championship points. The violations by the #10 and #19 teams were found prior to qualifying. In each instance the violations were of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts components and/or equipment not conforming to NASCAR rules) and 20-2.1E (unapproved aerodynamic modification) of the series rule book.(NASCAR PR)(2-13-2007)

QUOTE
David Hyder, the crew chief for Michael Waltrip, has been suspended indefinitely for infractions discovered on the #55 Toyota during Sunday's post-qualifying inspection for the Daytona 500. Further penalties against Waltrip's team will be announced at a press conference later on Wednesday. They are expected to be more severe than the two- and four-race suspensions of crew chiefs from four other teams that were announced on Tuesday.
I've been reading that Toyota isn't too happy with him either.
Mcgee
Feb 14 2007, 07:56 PM
According to Jayski.com Waltrip had a fuel mixture not aloud in the 55 car.
He was docked 100 driver points and 100 owner points.
His crew chief was fined $100,000.00 for the infraction of the rules. And suspended indefinitely.
They put tainted gasoline in the 55 car.
Nascar has impounded the 55 primary car.
I`ve heard of and seen some things they do to race cars. But that takes guts to try and pass bad gas mixture in a race car.
I bet you could smell the fumes from that car anywere on the track. Stupid trick.

After reading a little more about the restriction. Nascar said they found some kind of oil in the manifold. Waltrip says it might be blow by oil. But Robert Pemberton said he doughts it was just oil.
Toyota has told Waltrip that he has 2 out of 3 striks against him.
They are not happy with him.

I'm a big Jeff Gordon fan and I'd like to see him win... but I have to go with the longtime BMW "road course specialist" and GrandAm Cup champ Boris Said as my favorite to win the Daytona 500. At last season's Daytona night race, he won the pole and finished 4th in an independently owned car. He was in the top 5-10 in qualifying this year.

WTF!?!
Now Jeff Gordon gets penalized for a "part failure" that made his car 1" too low. They even admit that it provided no appreciable advantage. If it was a part failure then why penalize him by making him start 2nd to last.
Looks like NASCAR trying to save face and cover up more cheating.

Part failure my A$$, everyone knows Jeffy is the NASCAR golden boy and can do NO wrong. BS. They should penalize him as harshly as the others. BUT NO, how convienent that it NASCAR calls it a part failure, to save the GOLDEN boys A$$ once again.

Making him start in the back is a slap on the wrist and a slap in the face to the other teams.

Jeffy is still the pretty boy of Nascar GRRRRR. Can do NO wrong. Boris is looking pretty good. He should finish in the top 10. Tony Stewart has a fast car Dale JR. has a fast one. Carl Edwards is the dark horse to win. jmo. Ricky Rudd has a great starting place But his pit stops will hurt him.

#24-Jeff Gordon didn't sleep well on Thursday night. Not necessarily because his car failed inspection following the second of two 150-mile qualifying races, but because he was worried people might think his team deliberately cheated. That's understandable in a week in which five crew chiefs and one vice president for competition have been suspended since Tuesday. "That's what's bothered me the most," Gordon said. "It's what kept me up all night. People are going to think we did something to circumvent the rules." NASCAR determined that a parts failure resulted in the rear quarter panel of Gordon's #24 Chevrolet being too low

The 17 car was the factor in the 29 wining that race. I wonder what PIN head said to Matt after the race? He was his team mate last year. Pin Head was one of the reasons Matt got the ride with Rouch. RCR need to win at Daytona. They needed a boost for the team.

LMAO Nascar and auto racing isnt a sport, what is so interesting watching a vehicle go round and round and as you can see most of the drivers arent very intelligent, the only reason they can answer questions is because media trainers literally have to pound that stuff into them- what to say. Someone tell me why is it that most men in this region just have to be so big on hunting and fixing cars? Ive talked to many who dont even like it, they say they feel they have to act like theyre into it or else they will be looked at as feminine and Im sure alot of other guys feel the same. Darn men in this area are boring all they think about is sex, cars, and hunting. Women want men with that dull of a mind? There are others out here that arent dull women, contrary to what you may believe lol, Anyway Nascar is hilarious and not a sport.

I understand what you are saying but to just have such a closed mind that only thinks about those types of things I mentioned isnt much fun. Its fine to know about fixing cars, its just that the majority of men cant even hold a conversation unless it consists of those things I mentioned. I find it to more prevalent in this region than even way down in Beckley, WV where I moved from a year and a half ago and youd think that deep in the hillsit would be worse,Ive lived other places and that way of thinking doesnt rule like it does around here. Every time Im with guys and they see an attractive women all they say is damn I wanna (bleep) her, I dont think that way, they need to prove their personal worth before they get me and also alot that talk so much about hunting only maybe do it a couple times then they think they are experts and one of the gang, lol. As far as cars its fine to fix them and be into them but broaden your mind and let cars, sex , and hunting be for awhile. Sorry I got away from Nascar but it all goes together.

I don't watch NASCAR, but I have a couple friends that do. Do I care or think any less of them? No. I can change my oil, fix a tire, wash my Jeep and that's about it. I don't hunt, but the majority of my friends do and that's fine with me. I've only ever shot a gun at stationary non-breathing targets or in a video game. My closest friends, of whom are a mix of deer killers, NASCAR watchers, and car fixers (which makes me the black sheep) are the best friends I could ask for.
