Slowly but surely, the February 17, 2009, cutoff date for over-the-air analog TV gets an increasing amount of attention as we get closer to the date (just two years away). But an equally important date is just days away: February 28, 2007. That's the last day that manufacturers can ship or import any product that has only an analog TV tuner. As of March 1, all new TV and video products imported into the U.S. or shipped to retailers that include an analog (NTSC) tuner need to have a digital (ATSC) tuner as well.

So after February 17, 2009 the poor folks that can't afford sat. or cable and rely on over the air tv. will be forced to buy a converter or go with out tv.

Nice how the gov. is setting up a fund to help those people.

In other words I'm going to have to help pay for people to be able to watch tv. rolleyes.gif

I'm pretty sure the govt. is going to make some decent revenue by selling off the analog spectrum (vacated by tv broadcasts) to other tech companies. Remember, they "own" and regulate the airwaves.

Oh please. People will let their water get shut off before they deny themselves tv. You can see the Direct TV dish hanging out of the windows in the ghetto and in the trailer parks.

I haven't paid for cable since I was 19. I can afford it, but I choose not to have it because it's a big bunch of crap!

So I'll be the one person without any tv. All the poor people will forego dentist visits to maintain their deluxe cable packages. 800 channels in five different languages, but has rotting teeth. rolleyes.gif

Yes and thanks for your support. I got two $40 coupons in the mail from the government. Ha! cool.gif Now the only problem is finding the converters in stock somewhere. Wasted trip to MalWart on my lunch. Of course it wasn't incident-free either. I'll spare you the gory details. I'll be sure to call first next time before I decide to follow the converter down into the rabbit hole.

There's a Halloween costume idea. Alice in WalMartLand.

FYI- Best Buy carries the converter boxes but they do cost a bit more then the model Wal-Mart has.
