I urge all women 35 & older to have their regular mamograms.I was recently diagnosed with early stage breast cancer which was found on a routine mamogram. It was an aggressive type of cancer but luckily did not spread beyond my breast. My chances of long term survival are good.Without the mamogram my cancer would most likely have spread to other parts of my body. So please if you don't already do so get your mamograms as recommended by your doctor,it may just save your life.

It's a good thing you caught it early. Sounds like things will work out well for you.

My Mom, Dad and I have all had successful fights against other types of cancer. I wish you the best. Stay strong in mind and body.

Good luck and get healthy, jenpoo.

This thread is a painful reminder that my mom (in her 50's) refuses to get mamograms done. She "checks herself". I nag her all the time, but she's a hard head. I get sad and angry just thinking about her refusal.

Glad you caught it early, Jenn. Wishing you the best!

CPD, are you saying you fought cancer yourself??

Thanks ,one thing I found is I no longer stress to small stuff. When you have to face your mortality you have a different perspective on live.Having fought cancer yourself I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Try to convince her again .Im only 45 my mom died of bone cancer that may have started in the breast.(she was only 47) Mine could not be felt because of the size & where it was located & I am small breasted.I hope you can convince her to change her mind.

read my last blog and you'll probably find one of the reasons she doesn't want to get one. they are "uncomfortable" rolleyes.gif and maybe she's afraid they might find something too. some people don't want to know. huh.gif

SMan, tell her surgery and radiation/chemo treatments are uncomfortable as well.

Yeah, she's hit me with both of those reasons. I tried to leave the same message when you posted that blog, but comments were off.

I'll keep trying to convince her.....

I will be giving free mamograms this weekend. Of course, there is a pre-screening process involved; I won't just give ANYONE a free mamogram.

Sometimes even a serious thread can use a little humor.

Wow, Jenpoo, serious news. I'm glad you and your boobies are ok though. Do you watch Sex and the City? The last season would make you laugh and cry at the same time. Ladies that kicked breast cancer are tough! Well, anyone beating any kind of cancer is tough too, but the boobs can be such a sensitive thing for women.

I don't understand women that don't get it done. Their doctor's would have to be nagging them to death. Unless these women aren't seeing a doctor for regular checkups or at all?

I once heard someone compare their mamogram to a garage door coming down and squishing it. Sounds very painful. I'm not old enough to have them yet, so I'm still getting manually felt up. blink.gif Your freaking hands are cold woman! Surely not looking forward to it after all the horror stories. Someone told me awhile back that I have anal exams to look forward to as well. WHAT?! I've just gotten used to having a pap done. Add to that getting my boobs squished and my butt poked, I'll probably be crying on the way out of the office.

Anyway, glad to hear you're healthy and go watch Sex and the City! smile.gif

I'll be 50 this April, so I'll get to have my butt poked! so there! HA! huh.gif mammos are uncomfortable. they have to get as much of the breast tissue as they can in the area,so that they can scan as much as they can. it stretches and pinches the boobs, while smashing them. it's wonderful rolleyes.gif and you must look forward to joining the sisterhood soon! tongue.gif it's the only non-invasive procedure that they(men) have thought up for us girls, so theres really no valid reason not to have one. there are even free programs now thru the health dept. so that women without insurance can get one. theres no excuse. I was in and out in 20 mins. the only thing I would change would be the fact that they should have chocolate cake or cookies afterwards as a reward. happy.gif

My mom had breast cancer -- only a mammogram found it, and even the first biopsy was a false negative. Only the experience of Dr. Cheney (who is great) had her get a second biopsy.

Get those mammograms gals!

Hubby just had one this past year and he said it's not that bad. They doped him up real good with Valium and he was a happy camper. He said the hardest part was the "flush" before had. No solids for two days before, only clear liquids and drinking that Fiso-Fleet stuff. rolleyes.gif

Thank you, hey have you ever gone to Amtgard?

Your hubby is right, Dragon.

The stuff you gotta drink is something like Gatorade. Have to stay close to home! Ugh! Get through that and the worst is behind you. No pun intended.

The proceedure is a piece of cake. I've had many and they give you enough to knock you out for about 20 minutes. Then you feel fine after a short recovery period. Can go home with no problems walking out!

They can even remove any polyps with the proceedure. No pain.

So, get this test done also, people. My father died from colon cancer. I started getting colonoscopies when I was 40 and caught it early. The test saved my life, literally!

And, Dragon, they give you coffee, tea, soda and crackers as a reward! Really! smile.gif
