Now here we are at the POSITIVE thread for good places to eat in and around good old H-Town.
I know this has sort of been beaten to death. I felt we needed an up-to date list and hopefully one that doesn't get highjacked.
Here are a few we enjoy:
The shack in boonsboro. Fresh cut fries (Real ones!) and fantastic pit beef all at very fair prices.
The ledo. With the exception of the clueless owners and slight dirtyness they have by far the best wings in hagerstown.
I know you will think I am nuts on this one but the Crazy Horse is O.K. albeit the salads are lame and the steaks are thinner than the norm. the help is usually pretty good and the prices are fair.
The outback. Other than the wait for a table. They provide the best service and value for what you get. And NO plastic anything!! (Yes I know it is a big chain)
You know it is terrible, I have far more negative issues with Restaurants in H-Town than good. Yet unless I want to drive to Frederick or MOCO I am stuck with the generally poor assortment of what H-Town has to offer. It's sad considering how much better it is elswhere.

We probably dine most at Sakura, Al Pomodoro and Del Sol.
For quick, decent food, we usually go to El Ranchero or Panera Bread (I know it's a chain! But I love their black bean soup!).
We have been known to dine at both The Grill and Burhans Station, but neither are particularly special IMHO. We go to each maybe once or twice a year.
As many of you know, I like Stone Soup in Shepherdstown.

For a surprisingly good Italian meal try Il Castillo (sp?) in State Line... the Shrimp Tivoli is out of this world and even this big old Bear has problems finishing what they give me... comes with a good salad and garlic bread and very reasonably priced... their pizza and Mexican dishes also are real good...
For general going out with my wife and 8 yr old daughter we like Barefoot Bernies (good food and service), Imperial House for Chinese, and Mexican restaurant near the old Walmart.

My fav places:
Cafe Del Sol, Sakura, Duffy's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Schmankerl Stube, Springhouse Tavern (Dobbin House in Gettysburg)
Good places:
El Ranchero, Al Pomodoro, Burhans, The Grill, Outback, G. Hunter (Frederick), Acacia (Frederick), Brewer's Alley (Frederick)
How can you say there is a poor selection. I like the following:
Stadium-wings in winter/ half chicken or pit beef or steamed crabs in summer
Dimensions- great everything all the time bourbon wings are best
Grille- white pizza or crab waffle fries
Imperial Chinese- moo goo gai pan
Crazy Horse- best chicken ceasar salad
Moose's Bistro- great price on steak and cheese
Plum- turkey bread bowl for lunch
Bernies- shrimp salad wrap
Corsi's Pizza- lamb gyro
Western Sizzlin- best buffet selection
Duffy's- cream crab soup
Tony's (Halfway location)- mexican supreme burrito
Hong Kong- dragon and phoenix or chef's delite
Freddie's- chicken cheese steak
Broad Axe- potatoe skins and stacker sandwich
El Pomodoro- mamma's lasagna or chicken wrap
Cafe Del Sol- fried calamari appetizer
43 South- shrimp salad
Ruby Tuesday- french onion soup and salad bar
New Amish market in Longmeadow- anything, just walk around and eat
Saturday morning breakfast
J&M Grill
Howard St Corner
Shoney's buffet
Farmers market
Funkstown Tavern- cheeseburger and fries
O.k , is it lunch yet b/c this is all making me hungry, I'll post more later... anybody up for lunch?

I like to eat at Uno's (triple mushroom pizza), Michelle's, Oliver's in Longmeadow, the Hong Kong on Virginia Avenue, King's (WV), El Ranchero, Viva (WV), House of Kobe (the one in WV), Asian Garden (WV), Al Pomodoro, that bagel place in the shopping center off Wilson in Htown (bagel sammiches...mmm!), Heatherfields (WV), Kitzie's (WV).
Oh and I like the Olive Garden too.

And the Macaroni Grill.

LOL! I don't eat meat! Fortunately, most of the restaurants in H-town has one vegetarian offering, even though it's often something lame like a green salad and baked potato. Most places, though, at least have a pasta dish. I do wish there were more veg-friendly restaurants, though.
As for the pickles at Oliver's... I don't know what's "wrong" with them. But I had a friend who worked there, and she told me to "never, ever eat the pickles at Oliver's." I asked for details, but she just got this disgusted look on her face and turned away, as if discussing it was completely revolting. I didn't ask again, but I don't eat those pickles, either.

For our female posters:
Pickles are better than men, because...
Pickles never need a round of applause
Pickles stay firm for a weeks
It's easy to drop a pickle
Pickles don't ask: "Am I the best?" or "How was it?" or "Did you come?"
A pickle won't want to shake hands and be friends, and call you a cab, or tell you he's "not the marrying kind."
There has never been a pickle convicted of stalking.
A pickle never snaps your bra.
Pickles never have a mid-life crisis
Pickles don't care if you make more money than they do
Pickles are just fine with being on the wet spot.
Pickles are green.

It was okay. I'd return. But it's definitely not as good as when they were on State Line Road. The great salad and dessert bar is missing. And it's a tad on the expensive side. The fried chicken is still great though.
Going to The Grille at Park Circle for my birthday tomorrow, I'll post an updated report here afterwards.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Rhubarb House! It's a great place to stop in for lunch sometime - I've been there two or three times and never ordered something I didn't like.
If you only have a few minutes for lunch, you can't beat the hotdogs (or the friendly atmosphere) at the Dog House.
And for dessert, Bones and Cones is great! They've got treats for people and their four-legged friends. Whenever I'm walking my dog, she always tries to drag me over there for a treat!

How about the Texas Steakhouse? Do they have beer?
As you may be able to tell, hubby and I don't go out. Rarely as a matter of fact, and with the big 5-0 coming, I wanted to go out and eat. I want some place with brew. I don't want a snotty, yuppy place( go figure, huh?

). No sports!ugh. No candle light. Some place fun. Been to the Outback, didn't see what the bru-ha-ha was all about. Tired of Ruby Tuesdays, don't particularly like mexican/ El Ranchero. Havn't been to an Applebee's in forever.DO NOT want to go to Ryans! ick! * sigh* I don't know where to go( no comments on that one). have to keep looking in the papers I guess.

Been there three times... Twice my steak was so overdone it was like shoe leather... and I had to wait while my wife and daughter ate their meals to have mine redone...
The last time, I made it a point of telling the waitress about the last two episodes....
WELL, the place was quiet and about 4 other patrons came in after us and were served before us.... all I can say it that they probably screwed up my steak again and had to make another one, so we waited while the idiot chef who can't figure out what a medium steak is supposed to look like did it over again...
I will say the last steak was perfect, but there is no excuse for rotten cooks in a restaurant like that, especially when they are supposed to specialize in steak...

Yes... they have beer. Another steak house with casual atmosphere is Crazy Horse by the Valley Mall. They give you a bucket of peanuts at the table and you throw the shells on the floor. (Or, at least, that's what they did the last time I was there.) They serve beer, too.

Hello again.
We have discovered a new place to score a decent pizza!
Weis Market of all places. They make them fresh in the store. These aren't gross sort-of pre-mades like at Martins that you bring home and cook yourself. It seems to be very popular as they are always swampped and people are walking out in a steady stream with pizza boxes in hand.
Believe it or not some of the best fried chicken in H-Town is at AC&T. Specifically the one near the outlets. It is made from scratch every day.
Correction: It is not the "Shack" in Boonsboro it is the "Mountain Side Deli" Killer pit beef and REAL fresh cut fries!

The AC & T (used to be called American Convenience) has been the friend chicken bench mark for years in this area. Their potato wedges are great, too. I use their chicken regularly for office party and summertime cookout food.
The only pizza I've had from Weis was a warmed up slice that had been sitting out for the lunch crowd. It's not fair for me to judge them based on that.
Weis does an excellent job of steaming to-go shrimp. A few weeks ago when it snowed, I grabbed a couple lbs. from Weis and grilled steaks for a wintertime surf-n-turf treat.

I used to work at AC and T on Sharpsburg Pike and also in Smithsburg. The ckicken at first does seem to be awesome but once you smell the truck the chicken comes in on you may reconsider- it is downright nasty. After you get the odor from that and then you eat the chicken you end up tasting that same smell for good so please dont go out back when the truck comes in. Otherwise the place has awesome food, they just need to give you more.

The guys who operate the fryers are from the prison down the road on work release- I know all about that place, I worked there about 4 months back from april 2005 to august 2005 then I transferred to the Smitshburg location.

Hey I got a tip for you- go to AC and T around 9pm when they are tearing everything down in the deli. You can get meals for a whole week for 10 bucks. They put the remaining food in little containers and sell then from around 10cents to up to 65 cents or so.
