Another one bites the dust:
http://www.journal-news.net/news/story/108...al_100903_n.aspAs long as this state legislature continues failing to pass
laws controlling these things, these stories will be repeated.
For me, it's a Catch-22...I'd like to see ATVs regulated to the max,
but then again, I'd just as soon have these kids kill themselves
and remove another careless fool from within our midst...

They are dangerous..one of the first times I ever heard of one was at work and there was a case with a 12? yr old who was riding one and it rolled over onto him, pinning him and breaking his neck....ever since then, I have thought--these are vehicles--and should be treated as such--not as toys and exempt from all regulation...

What is it with all the goofballs? We ride a motorcycle and have to wear gear that make ya look like we're from a Mad Max movie yet these yahoos can just jump on these things that have bigger motors than some cars and wear hardly anything!
I don't understand why no laws have been passed about these things.?
No inspections,no tags( and they're on the road ya know)no testing for the drivers.
It's insane!

But I thought you liked being hot and having your vision limited and looking like a space alien at the same time???

I do! Hence the gear!

I've crashed before with shorts and boots(what a picture huh?

) and the cycle came down across my legs!I had a muffler burn and a foot peg in my leg.YEOW!Sides I think ya should have to register and pay taxes and tags and get tested. The whole nine yards.Maybe that should be if they're on the roads. On private property would be another matter. We've been battin round the idea of getting one for hauling firewood up from our woods and other duties. But then again we kinda like those ones from Honda called Mules with the dumper on the back.

I'm not so sure that more regulations and laws on these things will help save lives. You can make all the laws and restrictions you want on them, but most people will still handle them however they see fit. I think it has more to do with common sense. Do we have to make new laws, restrictions, and regulations every time someone doesn't use common sense and hurts or kills themselves? Is not having those laws in place beforehand really going to prevent the accident? What about common sense and accountability for your own actions?

Okay, but then when they break their neck, they cannot sue anyone, right? Well, guess what? They sue the makers regularly..which is why they now do not 'encourage' anyone under 13 to buy one--which of course means the parents lie that it is for them when it is for little Joey/Jane...
Besides that, I thought you loved government intervention??

I had thought that all vehicles that are driven on public roads had to be registered and all that already!

What exactly are the requirements for these things to be on the road? I heard that you had to be a licensed driver, wear a helmet, and have a headlight and tail light. Well, everyday there are atleast five or six 4 wheelers that come out of a field across from my house and go out onto the main road and there's no way that the people riding them are old enough to have their driver's license. It makes me mad everytime I see one of them on the main road.

All the money I spend each year in taxes and inspection to keep my vehicle legal to drive on the road, and the people who drive these things on the roads don't have to do any of that???? Like someone else said, it doesn't matter what kinds of laws and regulations they pass, they will still ride them wherever and whenever they want. The cops won't chase them for fear of causing them to crash and someone getting hurt. The cities and towns around here are now able to regulate the use of 4 wheelers on city streets (read today about Martinsburg banning them on the streets), so why can't they let the county do anything like that?

My point, txexpatriot, is this is the kind of thing that wastes so much time and money. People don't use common sense so we have to spend time and money on making more and more regulations and laws.
A simple example:
txexpatriot buys a rake and rakes the leaves in her lawn. She's unsure of where to store the rake after she's finished. She doesn't use common sense and decides to store the rake up her bum. Obviously this isn't a great idea. She goes to the hospital to have it removed. She then decides to sue the company that made the rake because they didn't warn her that you shouldn't store the rake up your arse.
This is what I'm talking about. It's like the McDonald's hot coffee issue. I realize this is a very dumbed down example, but I feel it applies to so many other situations like the ATV issue. If you don't use common sense and then have an accident, don't sue everyone if it was your own dumb fault. Then the stricter laws and regulations have to be put in place. Hold the correct party accountable, yourself. Save our time and money and be responsible for your own actions. Before you know it, every single thing in this world will come with instructions on how to properly use it and how to NOT use it.
As far as you stating that I love government intervention, I haven't a clue what you're talking about. You're putting words in my mouth. YOU actually support the government taking away people's right to marry.
