I took this from another forum, Frederick News Post. Someone else witness this not me. I was wondering if any of you all heard anything about this. I'm surprise the police didn't arrest the person right there. If I have seen this, I would have calls the police up too.

This happened yesterday as I was at the Wal Mart in Hagerstown. It was so surreal I couldn't beleive it. As my daughter and granddaughter parked in front of the Wal Mart, we heard screaming and noticed alot of other patrons coming to their cars, and exiting their cars- were all looking in the general direction of the aisle one row over from where we parked- a woman screaming at the top of her lungs "Get out of the car you little motherf----er so of course I looked over to investigate. I witnessed, as did about 20 other people and my daughter and 5 yr old grand daughter, a large (300+ lbs) woman leaning into the backseat of a 4 door Neon w/ temp. Pa. tages beating a child who appeared to be about 10-12 yrs old while screaming for him to "get the f- out of the car", plus incessant cussing featuring the f-word like every other word. It was nauseating. She was punching him in the face and arms/upper body so hard that each blow caused the entire car to rock. I walked over to her (with the aisle between me and her because I am only 150 lbs, she could have snapped Me in half) and screamed for her to stop, or I was calling the police. She came out of the car long enough to say- and I quote "mind your own f- buisness, white b---ch" and then continued to yell at the kid and punch him. She had several (maybe 3?) other friends who were apparently with her who also screamed at me to MYOB with the f-word thrown in. I called 911 on my cell and the cops were there in about 10 minutes. In the meantime, the poor kid continued to get beat by this woman. Finally he emerged from the car and the whole gang of them started for the store, when she screamed at me that she would be in the ??? department (I didn';t understand what she said) so if I came into the store she was going to "beat your a--". I then (unwisely) invited her to bring it on and come across the street and lay a hand on me right now (thinking rationally or maturely wasn't a part of this, at this point) The cops came, we gave a description of them and the cops went in and found them and brought them out of the store. After about 10 minutes of speaking with them, (I was in the parking lot waiting, as the cops had instructed me to)- a cop comes to where I was waiting and tells me these things:
1. Its not her kid, she is his "aunt"
2. The family reports the kids has been "acting up all day"
and 3. The kids mother has been called to pick him up and it will be HER decision if the "aunt" is arrested or charged, whatever.
4. I supposedly made "racial statements".
To which I replied to the cop:

1. I don't care WHOSE child he is, isn't there a law something like assault on a minor or something, especially when its witnessed by so many people??? And that I would come to H'Town and testify in court about this. Isn't child abuse against the law??????????
2. I don't care what the kid had been doing all day ("acting up") if he was being that horrible, leave him at home, don't allow him to go shopping, etc. I can't imagine anything a child would do to warrant such an assault. I am not talking about spanking. She was beating him like a man.
3. If the "aunt" treats the kid like this in broad daylight in public, how is he treated at home in private????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
4. The only racial statement made was when she called ME a "white b--ch". I don't "do" the racial thing.
But her trying to play the race card was pretty infuriating.

The result? I don't know. The cops have my name, address, phone numbers, etc. Wonder if I will get a call or a summons to court? Why do I doubt this was treated as a serious crime? If any of you had been there and witnessed this, you would have been in absolute shock, as we were.
The whole event bothered me so much that I had a really hard time getting to sleep last night. I kept thinking, was the kid beaten worse later on for being "so bad" and causing so much trouble, etc? Did I make things worse? Now everytime I think about this poor kid I cry. Does anyone know if I would be able to get info if I called the H'Town police about if an arrrest was made? I didn't get a "case number", no paperwork was done in my presence other than the cop writing down my name and address and phone numbers in his little notebook. I wonder, does soc serv already know about this family, or will they get reported to soc serv so this kid might be "safer"? Are any readers of this forum H'Town cops who could check into this and let me know? That might be a no-no, who knows. I am just sick over this. I keep seeing that kids face. Is it possible for me to file a complaint on my own? I know the cops have these peoples names and addresses because they spoke to them at great length, and I would think that they took SOME info from them. By FredNurse

All the while I was reading this I thought you were the one who called police.

It really doesn't surprise me that the Hagerstown PD didn't do anything. They kind of have a reputation for failure to act.

300lbs. you say? ppffftttt! I could take her! With my size I would've been closer than the female in the story.I don't cotten to hitting a kid like that.And I would've been dropping some F-bombs myself.
anywho, it makes you wonder who or what is breeding in this day and age. seems to me that the mother would know what kind of a lunatic the aunt is and would care enough about her kid( no matter what he did/does) not to let him stay with this nut. makes you wonder how this boy is going to grow up. what course of action can someone take in this case? the tags were temps, so you can't trace them(?).I guess the only thing that you can hope for is the fact that the beating was brought to the attention of the authorities in some manner and theres some of record of it.

I often find myself asking the same question. Daily.

Had they given me lip, I'd have challenged them all to a duel in the art of pugilism and street combat. I don't take kindly to child abusers, or aggressive Wal-Mart shoppers..

Yoss, I pull it from another forum. I put that information on the bottom, which I should have put that on the top. I'll remember next time. I edited my post to reflex that. The writer was FredNurse, which she belongs to the FNP fourm. I thought you all would be interested in this.

I don't see how people can get away with it. The police should have lock up this person, right then and there. All to often you hear a family with a history of child abuse, but yet nothing is done about.

There was a person that lived, I'll say about 3 blocks away from where I live. The person had a history of child abuse. Well guess what, that child is dead now. The person did go to prison. But that's beside the point. If someone would have step in and took that child. That child would still be alive today. Yes, it's a true story.
