I want to congratulate my son for getting straight A's yesterday. His teacher also sent home some forms to fill out saying that he qualified for the merit and magnet program. Does anyone know anything about Springfield middle school in Williamsport?
Flipper
Well I know its on Sunset Ave, the principal is Ruppenthal and it has a very good performance record.

biggrin.gif First, great news on the report card. Lost track they were coming out, I better check. huh.gif
I attended an "It's Academic" competion at Springfield Middle. The principal and staff were very nice. I do not have any first hand information on their program. A neighbor speaks highly of it. Says it sets a good tone and a great foundation for high school.

My daughter attended a magnet program in Montgomery County, during her middle school years. The experience really prepared her to make good choices and apply herself academically. This was good. Currently, she is in an area school. Some of the students are motivated and working hard. The small minority of unmotivated students have proven real pieces of work, totally amazing. This has depressed her, but been a learning opportunity.

She entered high school with a strong foundation and some good skills. So I am a proponent of good middle school magnets. The teachers and subject focus during my child's middle school years really motivated her. It stuck with her. Which was good, she felt 50/50 on her high school experience. In the end, she has done great so that is what counts.

biggrin.gif Now that there is a strong IB program in the area, there is an improved progression from challenging Middle School magnets to good High School programs. Later on, the arts magnet might add additional choices.
Good luck to all involved in schools. It is hard for parents, teachers, and students. Thankfully, w/ hard work, it all works out in the end.

Congrats bud. High school will be the true test when he has to juggle school, sports, social life and girls. You know how it is. wink.gif

Luckily so far he hasn't caught the "girl fever" much more interested in sports. I'm sure its only a matter of time.
