Full Version: Parking tickets

Ok, this pisses me off.

I work downtown and my company pays for monthly parking passes for a specific lot. Well, sometimes all of those spaces are filled up and if I park anywhere else, I have to pay the meter. Unfortunately I don't have time to keep going outside to feed the meter or see if there's a free spot to move my car to, so I get ticketed! The meter readers see my freakin' parking pass and they MUST notice that my lot is full, so they ticket me anyway! WTF is that about?! mad.gif

Hopefully there will be someday for people to pay their tickets for half-price or something soon because I have at least 5 tickets, probably more.

I don't know much about parking downtown. But it seems to be wise to limit the number of parking permit in that lot. Everyone that pays for that parking permit should be able to park there.

I would have to agree, Since your paying for parking on that lot. If you can't fine a space, you shouldn't get a ticket because of it. When they can clearly see the parking sticker on your vehicle. It's not fair at all, because your paying double the price and then some.

Isn't it against the law to feed a meter? I know in Baltimore, if you get caught feeding a meter there's a fine associated with it, I think it's equal to the fine for an expired meter. The whole idea about 2 hour meters is that you park for a maximum of 2 hours, you leave and turn the space over to someone else. Other wise they'd just put in 8 hour or 12 hour meters.

just saying....
coma
There are 8 or 12 hour meters in a very small area... and those spots are always filled up.

I don't know why any city would care if someone is feeding a meter or not as long as they get their money. That's the way I always saw it, anyway.

I think the whole idea behind it is, not to generate revenue for the city, but to create more turnover for the businesses in the area. The more different people that park in that particular spot means more potential customers for the businesses in the area.

Now, the parking nazi's around the hospital--that's a different story.

Shouldn't you or your company be leaving warnings on the vehicles that are taking your spaces? Stop parking here or else.

Get to work earlier than they do, slacker. Early bird gets the parking spot.

Shouldn't the spots have "reserved" warnings on them? "This spot reserved for XYZ Company employees only." Or just spraypaint it yourself like they do in downtown M'burg.

I say send them a warning. A little Easy Off oven spray down the hood should get the point across. ph34r.gif

No, we can't leave warnings because:

- they are not assigned spots
- they have meters as well so the public can park there
- other cars have passes for those spots too

Getting here early doesn't solve the problem since I have to go out for meetings too.

I don't see the point in paying for those spots then.

Carpool. Ride a bicycle to work. Take a cab.

Ride the bus. ph34r.gif

Parking Enforcement:
When I was in college, one of the work study jobs I rotated through, was campus parking enforcement. Great!, you have so many friends with that gig. I finally got reassigned.

I jumped out of one city business last week, the meter lady was writing up a storm. She is very productive, and pleasant too. I hope her city wage reflects that. biggrin.gif

The day I ride a bike to work, it will be a chopper.

Coma,

Tell me where you are parked and I'll help you feed the meter!! biggrin.gif I do "business" down on Potomac Street alot. And I started walking there as I work close by. Everytime I drive there, I'd end up being a few minutes over the two hours and get a ticket.
I swear there is a meter person lurking in the bushes off of Potomac just waiting for the minute the time is up.

Anyway, now, I will put some coins in meters when I walk down Potomac and see that they are ready to expire!! Just as a random act of kindness. (So, there you mean meter person! I know you're out there somewhere!)

Gotta watch each other's backs. tongue.gif

Once, I drove down and parked. Then forgot that I drove down and walked back to work. When I was leaving my office at 5pm, I couldn't find my car and thought someone stole it! Bad senior moment. Walked back down Potomac and there she was with a nice fat ticket. At least, they only gave me one!

Whats the big deal? let the Mayor fix it for you! biggrin.gif

Just curious, How much is a parking tickets when someone gets one from a meter that runs out?
Checkingin
My tickets were $7.00. I go pay it right away so I don't forget. It goes up to $10 within so many days (can't remember). And, then I think can go up to $30 at some point.

I write a check and drop it off at the drop off box over at the police station. biggrin.gif

We've actually watched a meter reader stand at a meter with a few minutes left so they could write a ticket. Someone from the office ran out and threw a few coins in. Hilarity ensued.

Also Flipper, that guy is one of three or four meter readers. He seems to be pretty nice, always says hello when I greet him.
