I was talking to some friends about my spray-on tan. I had the kind done where a professional sprays you with an airbrush gun, not the automatic spray booth. They said I should have tipped the lady that sprayed me. Yeah? But even if I had known to tip her, I wouldn't have known how much to tip being that I didn't know how well she did. I never had the service before and even if I had, it takes a day for the stuff to develop so I wouldn't know how well a job she did until a day later.
On top of those issues, I got the feeling that she was the owner of the whole tanning salon and you're not supposed to tip the owners. But how should I know if she's the owner? Am I supposed to ask?
So I did some research on tipping and was shocked at how little I know. Several websites said that you don't tip bars and clubs on top of a cover charge. I've always done that. Everyone I know has always done that.
My tipping in general sucks anyway because I rarely carry cash. If you don't let me put the tip on the credit card, then you're stuck with whatever loose change and crumbled dollars I can find in the corners of my purse.
My friend carries a tip calculator in her purse. Maybe I should find a miniature one for my itsy bitsy purse.
I know we had conversation on here about tipping before, but I couldn't find it to add this to it.

Hubby and I are generous tippers... mostly because we both have had previous jobs in the restaurant biz. Although I hope to never wait tables again, there's nothing wrong with sending out a little good tip karma. LOL
Tipping the spray tan person does seem weird since you don't see the results of their work until days later. My thing would be, if you like the tan, use the same person and tip them the next time. Also... as for the "tipping owners" thing... I think most small biz people wouldn't turn up their nose at a tip.
I suppose there's proper "tip etiquette," but I generally just tip when I think it's appropriate.
I am ashamed to say, however, that every once in a while I forget someone... like the maid at a hotel or something.

Dude, I was freaking out over the spray-on experience. I wasn't thinking of anything but trying to get out of there. That's a funny story for another thread though.
I always tip at bars and clubs too, obviously, but this website said that you don't if you have already paid a cover charge to get in.

I'm an idiot. I tip even poor service 20%. More if the service impresses me, especially keeping the Diet Pepsi flowing.

I start out at 25% of the total bill. Then I take money off if the service is crappy.
Whether it be a restaurant, hair cutting place etc.
I don't tip in bars anymore, I notice whether I tipped or not the service was still worthless.
I still had to go up to the bar and get my own drink, because I got tired of waiting.
