Are there any carpet installers out there looking for a side job? If you guys know of anyone willing to come over the line into WV for a basement job PM me ASAP!

I don't know any off the top of my head, but here's what I did
when I lived in Inwood and needed my newly finished basement
carpeted:

I ordered the carpet and padding from Red Barron in Williamsport,
but they didn't do installation. They do however have a list of
installers that you can call and have them give you estimates
on what they'll charge to do it. They guys I chose actually went
to Red Barron, picked up all of the materials, showed up, and then
proceeded to install the carpet, including a half-flight of stairs,
all on one Saturday.

So maybe you could call or visit Red Barron and ask them for
a few phone numbers.

i just bought everything and did it my self , very easy.

Not on the side, but Lowes Hagerstown has a great install crew -- did 2 jobs for me and did an excellent job -- very happy with the work. But their English is a different story...

Hey...That's a good idea. Since we already have the carpet & padding ordered from DH's work and on standby, we're ready other than having the installer. Thanks!

Your right, I did my whole house myself too. It's not as hard as some people may think.
Why pay someone when you can do it yourself. I'm tight with my money, what can I say. smile.gif

I'm not sold on Lowes. About two years ago I was in need of some carpet in two rooms, stairs and a hallway. I did the hallway and stairs myself but I didn't want to move all the furniture so I figured I would have them install the two rooms.

Like Snoopy said not much English, but they got right to it and I thought they did a good job until about six months ago when it started to buckle up in between the two rooms, so it looks like I'll have to pull some of it up then do a little trimming and stretch it a little more.

I guess if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

Yep, I'm a firm believer on that. Plus you can save a lot of money that way.

I redid my extended porch roof (20 x 21). A roofing company wanted $1,450, I did it for $300.

I got a estimate for gutting & redoing my kitchen when I first moved in. Cost was $12,000, I did it myself for $4,000.

Right now I'm working or redoing the whole yard. With 85% weeds, there's not much grass.
Taking out all the old stuff, and digging then plant new grass seeds.

Next project after that, enclosing the porch. Haven't decided whether to use windows or just screen. smile.gif

You are awesome, Sweets. Do you give lessons? I would be so proud to do that kind of work.

Thank you to both

But there's a story behind it. I had 2 worthless ex-husbands, the only thing good about them was they worked, but that's it. They never wanted to help around the house at all. So I got tired of asking, felt more like begging them to do something for me.

So I got pissed off and wise. I started going to the library, educating myself on the wonderful world of How To. Then over the years I started buying books, now I have a good collection of How To, do this and that.

Now I do all my own repair work and whatever else needs to be done, because this woman waits on no one.

I could give lessons for a price. smile.gif

We've finished off the basement ourselves with help from some great friends and relatives and DH has done the electrical himself. He got the carpet for free, just had to pay for upgraded padding.

We aren't above doing it ourselves and are definitely on a budget here, but we want the job done right and quickly. 4 adults in a three bedroom rancher is getting a little too cozy!
