Anybody gone to the new family-friendly Irish pub yet? It's in the new addition to the Food Lion on North Pointe. I haven't been yet, but I may make it over there tomorrow night. Report back if you have gone or make it there before I do!

Another sports bar?

Anyhow, first I've heard of it, but we'll have to try it out.

Generally speaking... I avoid places with "Beef" in the name. wink.gif

Checked out the menu and didn't see any veg friendly offerings. (Are vegetarians really so scarce around here? I would've thought us rabbit-food eaters would be getting a little more common these days...)

Interested to know how the food is, though. First glance at the menu looks like a typical Crapplebee's-TGIFridays-Garfields type of place.

I keep wondering when someone's gonna open up a GOOD ol' fashioned Italian place.

On another note... I'm not sure the place really qualifies as an "Irish Pub." Shouldn't it at least offer some type of non-Americanized potato dish to be considered Irish?

According to the website we are getting 2 of them. One out north and one in south Hagerstown.

I'm with peacefrog, I'd like to see more places around here with veg-friendly offerings (and I'm not vegan, I just like to eat healthy). We seem to be inundated with chains of the Crapplebee's variety. Also, people seem to be peeing themselves over the fact that we're getting an Olive Garden (bleh--Macaroni Grill is SO much better, IMHO).

And as a proud Irish-American, Beef o' Brady's is as Irish as Shaquille O'Neal! wink.gif

There's also one down in Frederick on Crestwood Blvd. in the old Food Lion Shopping Center, or what used to be Food Lion but is now called something like Bottom Dollar or something...

anyway, I digress...

I hate when people add "Irish" to the name of their bar/restaurant and its anything but! There was a sweet Irish pub in Orlando on Church St, but I forget the name. There's also Maggie Moore's in downtown Baltimore... that place is cool, and its actually owned and run by real Irish. www.maggiemoores.com

Durango the new Mexican/Spanish restaurant on Washington St has almost a whole page of veg-friendly offerings on the menu...
We have been there 4 times so far and the food, service and prices have been fantastic.... they also seem to be very amenable to you making minor changes in a dish if they can do it. They are also very child friendly.

Hi Griz--interesting you should mention that, because I was there for lunch last week. I ordered a shrimp fajita, and it was fantastic--big, fresh shrimp too, not those miniscule rubbery things you get so many other places. My husband ordered a steak fajita and said it had good flavor but was a bit tough. Also, the waiter brought it out to him and the meat wasn't sliced, which we both found very odd. We had to track down the waiter for a steak knife to cut the meat! The service was a little spotty too. There were very few customers, and it looked like there was only one waiter. There was an older couple next to us who were getting kind of p.o'd because they had asked for the check, and 5 minutes later they were still waiting for it. On the way out, our waiter (who may be the proprietor, I'm not sure?) apologized for the service and said they were shorthanded but were in the process of hiring. Overall, I will probably try it again...they may just have been having an off day.

I've eaten there a few times and also have gotten take out. The food has always been good but yeah, the service definitely needs to pick up a little bit. I know they have hired a few new folks.

Plus, the decor. GAH! I always hated the layout of that space and the colors are okay but not for a restaurant, especially Mexican! They need to make the place feel a little more TexMex (or whatever they're trying to do) and spruce it up a bit. I'm sure they're trying to get by with as little investment as possible, but damn, you aren't gonna have a restaurant for long anyway if you don't do something to draw people in and keep them coming back!

It's all about the experience, and right now the ONLY thing they have going for them is good food. The rest of it SUCKS.
SMan
Beef O'Brady's? Sounds like a bad pr0n actor's name.

Yeah, looking at the link Yoss provided, I found the offerings disappointing....and not at all Irish. I didn't realize it was a chain, never heard of it, which is odd because looking at the map, they are all over the midwest and southeast, my common stomping grounds. Too bad, I was hoping for a family owned Irish joint. Oh well. Will prolly stagger over there at some point. The great advantage is that it's close to the house!!

Coma, I don't care if a restaurant has pink and orange walls and purple carpeting. I don't go to look at the paint job, I go for the food..
Personally, I think the off white walls with the scattered sombreros and other items is a nice minimalist look that works for the place.. Some of these Mexican Restaurants with historical scenes painted all over the walls are a bit off to me...
I also like that the tables are not crowded together so you have to hear someone else's conversation.

Wildblue, We have never been there at lunch... dinner service has been good and the help was very friendly. I believe they are only open a bit over a month... I really hope they stay open. It is without a doubt the best Mexican/Spanish restaurant in the area...

Back to Beef O'Brady

Went there for dinner last evening with my wife and 8 yr old daughter.
I have to say we were very pleased with the place... good atmosphere, good service and good food... what more could you ask for.
We started with the Queso Dip and Chips and it was a large serving with just enough spice to keep it interesting
My wife had the O'Brady Burger and said it was very good and more than enough...
My daughter had the kids Boneless Wing Dinner and it was more than she could eat... her only complaint was that the Honey BBQ was more like ketchup in taste (and I have to agree with her), but she did like the meal... They have 11 items on the kid's menu... that was great.
I had a salad and the Boneless Wings Basket... I ordered them hot and have to say that IMO there were at best a spicy medium... but then again if I don't break out into a sweat they ain't hot enough for me. It was a good size serving that was more than enough service with fries and good coleslaw.
We even decided to have desert... My wife and daughter shared an Oreo Cookie Ice Cream and I had a Caramel Pecan Ice Cream... both more than enough and very good.
What was nice was the bill.... Appetizer, Dinner, Dessert and drinks for $40 for three of us.
Not a fancy place with fancy food .... but better than most chains I have been in and the manager made it a point to come to the table to make sure our dinners were OK...
We will be going back. Considering the mildness of the hot wings (to me), I am going to have to try the Nuclear sauce.. tongue.gif

I'm not talking about cheesy airbrushed walls and furniture. Go to a real mexican/spanish/texmex restaurant outside of Washington County and you'll see what I mean. Tio Pepe in Baltimore is a good one. In South Beach they all have the right feel, obviously.

Now I know this is Hagersbush, but some people do enjoy a unique atmosphere. I realize they're trying to start a business with as little investment as possible, but that business will not last if they don't do something to make it a more pleasurable experience. Just ask Michelle.

Tio's is still there? Heck of a restaurant... but like walking into a catacombe... but it is in a basement. I used to know the head guy there, Jesus... nice guy. Their appetizer shimp in garlic and champagne sauce is excellent! Give me a bucket of that sauce, a loaf of their bread and I'm set... you can even leave out the shrimp. Tio's serves not your typical spanish fare but the real spanish at home meals, like you'd get at an out of the tourist way place in Madrid.
coma
Yeah Tio's is still there. It is kind of like walking into a catacombe but the walls and decor are fitting of the restaurant, at least. Last time I was there I had a huge omelet... I couldn't even begin to tell you everything that was in it.
