Anyone know of great locations in Washington County and surrounding areas to shoot portaits.

I am looking for:
Abandoned warehouse
waterfall.

And anything else that would be great for portraits.

Thanks in advance
Yossarian
Although in Frederick County, it's very close, but the ultimate waterfall backdrop would be Cunningham Falls in Catoctin. Although Devils Backbone Park and Dams 4 and 5 might receive some consideration. And I believe there's a very small waterfall in City Park.

As far as abandoned warehouses, I'm at a loss for suggestions.

Thanks Yoss. I wasn't too impressed with Cunningham Falls whne I went to have a look. It is more like a water slide, that a water fall :-) I should go look at Devils BackBone again and Dams 4 and 5.

Thanks

Have you tried driving up to Ft. Loundon area? I think it is Rt. 75 to Rt. 30. On the way, there is a mountain (hill) that is absolutely breathtaking.

It juts out and stands alone. Reminds me of something from a movie filmed in South America. That area is gorgeous.

so where do we post our pics?
Yossarian
You have to find a site that will host them and then do an image link here.

I personally like www.tinypic.com, but some others use photobucket.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I am going to have to figure out where some of these places are, as I don't know the area too well. Still learning it

Hey guys,

Where is the old power plant in the city?
And the covered bridge just west of town.

Thanks,

Thomas

I'm assuming the power plant is at the corner of Eastern and Mt. Aetna/Memorial, kitty corner from the Suns stadium. Can't help with the covered bridge tho.
SMan
Could the covered bridge be the one on (I think) Broadfording Rd. that had that road closed for months last year?
Yossarian
The covered bridge must be the one at Martin's Mill off Worleytown Rd west of Greencastle. Maybe google or mapquest it (Martin's Mill Covered Bridge) to get directions. I can get there, but not sure if I could direct someone to it.

Martins Mill Bridge is a great place for photos, picnicing or tubing.

The campground used to offer free, home-made ice-cream on Sunday to everyone at the park.

First, take Route 63 to Cearfoss, go thru the roundabout and head toward Greencastle.

Turn left on Weaver (I think, anyhow, it's the 1st road past the Mennonite Church - HUGE old tree on the right beside the turn-off road).

Follow the winding road, stop at the STOP sign, do a little swing to your rigt and go DOWN Martins Mill Road (it's NOT a thru-road). The park is on your right. The bridge is not strong enough for today's heavy cars, so it's closed, but you can get some really nice shots from the banks, or climb in the creek and get your pix that way.

The directions Yoss provided is NOT quite right, it forgets the turn-off road (the one that I 'think' is Weaver).

If all else fails, EVERYONE in that area knows where it is, just stop and ask directions once you get close.

Or...if your sex forbids asking for directions, take a woman, we're not prohibited by law from asking directions. tongue.gif

Yoss, please.

If you want spectacular waterfalls, go to Swallow Falls State Park in Oakland, MD. They are breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!! Definately worth the trip.

Thanks for all the reponses. Are there other places closer to Hagerstown. 2 - 3 hour drive each way is not feasible for me.

Thanks,

Thomas

You should have no problems finding abandoned warehouses in this area. Just drive around. tongue.gif

I'd rather have a chat than a gallery, but then again I'll probably be the only one to use it like the blogs.

Thomas, here in Martinsburg is a very large, empty warehouse that spans across a street.
You take 81S to exit 13( King St.), turn left at the light on the ramp. Go down W. King St. to the third light( 7-11 is on the right. this is Winchester Ave.), and make a right. Go the first light and make a right, and you will see the huge warehouse on both sides of the street. for the life of me I can't remember the name of the darn thing. It's been empty many, many years and theres talk of turning it into high rent Lofts and offices( rolleyes.gif in Martinsburg yet! rolleyes.gif )

The only problems with warehouses, without written permission of the owner to use the facility, you'd likely face the risk of trespassing charges.

Agreed Yoss. I would mind even asking the owner if I could use it.

there's a waterfall at devil's backbone...

"A pedestrian bridge over the creek affords access to the "island" section of the park and to a nature trail with a scenic view above the waterfall. "

but if youre still looking... here! http://www.mgs.md.gov/esic/fs/fs9.html
